They get a percentage of any bonus you get including profit sharing.

I think it's bullshit that 1.5% of my profit sharing goes to the union. My profit share was based on hours that I worked, not the union. I'm the one working my ass off 10hrs a day and weekends. When I looked up my check and saw that over 100$ was taken for the union, it made me wonder just how much money the union made this week from FORD,CHRYSLER AND GM brothers and sisters. And the union wants to raised our dues, give me a break. I think we should make a by-law change and have it removed. It's our money, we are the ones earning it day in and day out. How can we get this changed?

Maybe consider the fact that if it wasn't for the union, your profit share would be 0%.

Maybe consider the fact that if it wasn't for the union, your profit share would be 0%. Yes, I have to agree profit share could be 0% without a Union, but the first full week of every month I pay 2hrs of pay to my Union. It was my understanding that the 2hrs for dues that the Union collects from the membership goes towards our local and the international. With that being said, because I pay the Union dues and they negotiated us a contract that included profit share, I just don't agree with the amount that was deducted from the check that I worked so hard for. Surely you have to understand with the talk of raising dues that this was going to upset a lot of people.

It's a negotiated benefit. .....for the union. All of us pay them monthly, hitting a profit sharing check is tacky IMHO.

I don't understand why all the outrage all of the sudden. I guess, like you said, the talk of raising dues is the reason.

Why not switch to the agency fee so they only get paid for what they DO for us? You'd be getting all the same benefits, paying less hours to them, and no profit-share theft, and at the same time showing them that just because we appreciate the union, doesn't mean we're going to bend over for them. The whole purpose of the union is the WORKERS right? Not the bosses on beaches.
