Voter Registration Drive - The Citizenship and Legislative Committee will be carrying out a voter registration drive inside LAP and KTP. The drive will kick off in both plants on Monday, August 25 and extend for two weeks. The goal of the committee is to not only register voters but also educate the members on issues and the importance of supporting candidates that back the unions’ issues. The November 4th General Election is a little more than two months away and the deadline for registration in both Kentucky and Indiana is October 6th at the close of the clerks’ offices for the day. Every member should be registered to vote and make sure that they vote to maintain a voice for working families.
AFSP Out of the Darkness Walk - The walk has grown this year with a collaborative sponsorship of UAW Local 862, KTP, LAP, and Voith units along with all the employees within our local union. The walk continues to raise money for vital research and education programs to prevent suicide and save lives. Please join my family, myself, and our team (UAW Local 862 Ford/Voith) on November 1st, in our efforts to walk to achieve our goals to raise awareness. Visit afsp.donordrive.com to register.
CAP Meeting - Local 862 will have a Community Action Program meeting Monday, August 25 at the Gettelfinger Hall on Fern Valley Road at 2:30pm & 6:30pm. There will discussion on the November Election and the need for volunteers for the labor program to secure the success for the UAW endorsed candidates. The UAW will be working with the AFL-CIO and the Workers Voice Program for Louisville "to get out the vote" for working families.
Cincinnati Reds Baseball Trip – If you would like to attend a Cincinnati Reds Baseball Game, for free, you can register at either of the Local 862 Union Halls. The game is September 28th, 2014. Our Local 862 Recreation Committee has tickets, a bus, and refreshments available for the trip! The bus will leave the LAP Hall at 9:15am and the KTP Hall at 9:45am. Approximate return is 8:00pm. You can visit uaw862.org and print a registration form from the website. If more applications are received than tickets available, a “lottery draw” will occur.
