Nice info in president dunn's news letter. Would be nice to hear about his thoughts about the current affairs of the union. Instead of a charity walk or a picnic or a bass tournament. I thought a president is suppost to lead or rally the troops so to speak. Not bashing the guy. Probably a he'll of a good guy. I dont know?

Just like to figure out what he does? Im sure theres alot behind the curtain so to speak hes responsible for.Doesn't really matter I can't do anything about it. I never see him walking the floor or anything to do with the workers inside the plant. Always see him in the monthly handout at some uaw charity stuff. But that doesn't have much impact on the workers. Not ever being in a union I guess I expected the president to be more visual. Seems like uaw does a lot that has no bearing on helping the worker.

The President of the Union is a political position for our Local Union. He has no position inside either plant. That power stops at the building chairman.
He uses the combined power of the union for political campaigns of Democrats, organizes the volunteer commitees, organizes non union companies that ask for the UAW's power to assist, deals with the retirees and their meetings and needs, and does many things that show our unions generosity to the communiry.
He is a work-a-holic that does our union proud. He has finally put a good face in the media also that was missing for a very long time.
Inside our plants locally, our issues stop with the Building Chairman.

Thanks for the clarification! Nobody had explained it to me any where close as you did. As many conversations as I've had with co workers in the last 3 years, it never came a crossed like that.

The president oversees committees and local issues not any kind of production or contract issues, that is supposed to be our chairman and bargaining reps.

If you have an issue with something I said tell me what it is you disagree with. Instead you come up with a smart ass comment instead. I dont have 20 years in and I dont know the in and out of how the union works. My first go around. I would like to have important questions to me answered. It would be nice if there was representative from international to answer some of those questions that dont pertain to everyday grind of inside the plant. I thought maybe the president would inform us of that. I was wrong. When you make a two tier wage you dont care about the little petty stuff that goes on in the plant. Its all work! Some things are fair some things aren't. You get the worst job in the area because your a new hire who cares.Work voucher who really cares, would be nice but so what. Its all about show me the money. And yes i new what i signed up for.Its not about making friends, being apart of something. Its about what gets deposited in my account on friday.

I appreciate that. Not that you dont have all the answers, but i would prefer to hear the answers to my questions I have out of international. The situations the union has to deal with inside the plant or about the plant I could care less. Ive excepted that my retirement plan, my insurance plan, and my weekly compensation is a lot lower then most and probably will always be that way. But by paying dues I figure it gives me the right to voice my opinion how ever loud or by the lack of important things i seem to say. So until its closer to an even playing field there will probably be more people like bitching and asking why things are the way they are. Its not really out of disrespect to anyone, more out of lack of knowledge and how things actually work.

If you are, with the creation of VEBA, it could be debated that you/we still won't have a "pension"

It took me 3 years to get to full pay. You will get there as long as we stand our ground for the 20% rule. When I hired in most people thought it was ridiculous that we weren't being paid the same. Most people I know feel that way about 2nd tier now. I don't know anyone who thinks people should earn less. If they do they're probably mean people in general. Our insurance will eventually be equal. Our pay will eventually be equal. 2nd tier will never have a pension but they get a match on a percentage of 401k investment that we won't get. If 2nd tier take advantage of that they could do quite well when retiring. What we don't need during next contract is IUAW shoving down our throats with fear any changes to the 20% rule and any decreases in benefits, pay, break time, holidays or taking anything away in general. We need to get back lost benefits and receive pay raises (not bonuses). Ford is profitable and have done so off our backs. We really do need "legacy" and 2nd tier to work together and not try to get more at the expense of the other. As said before ford will use and is using this tactic because infighting will only benefit ford in the long run. Not to sound cheesy but solidarity and our vote is all we have to get what we deserve. I promise that I'll stand behind all my coworkers on the floor during the daily grind and with my vote.

I understand doing away with pensions isn't a union or automobile industry thing. Companies nation wide union and non union are doing away with them. My gripe would be make our matching 401k comparable to your pension. Make our insurance as good as yours. Make our pay as good as yours. Equal pay equal work! If women or minorities were getting paid what the younger age group coming in was getting played there would be riots! But I guess its all right as long as most of them dont say to much. And a lot of younger workers dont say anything. $15 an hour is better than they were making at there previous jobs. As long as they have a little jingle in there pocket there fine with it. They're not going to realize there getting screwed until they get married and start a family and understand damn im not even part of the middle class.
