Maybe you shouldnt have had 3 kids. Maybe your wife needs to work. Poor life choices and we are supposed to feel sorry for you? Dont think so Didn't ask anyone to feel sorry for me. And it's not three, it's three+. So more than three. As for a "poor life choice ". I certainly disagree. It is an old fashioned life choice. It is the way my union family was raised. And I feel that a union job should provide a middle class life style for a single income family with 2-3 children. Our base 60k/ year salary is not what it was 10 years ago. You're right. Its actually less than what it was 10 yrs ago. But hey, I'm sure the boys in solidarity house are going to make sure they get their raises again this contract!

There is no reason you cant survive on a base salary of 60k. Why dont you work overtime? I made 100k last year. I work in trim so you had the same opportunities. Im in a union family too. Having a shit load of kids has nothing to do with being union. Catholic maybe. What do you think people did in the old fashion days you talk about? They had up to 12 kids and were dirt poor. You barely get by and have no cable? Im guessing no vacations either. I bet its great living in your house

Didn't make 100k, but I did work a lot more overtime than I'd like. I think you missed my point.

The old days are gone, and they weren't as good as people tend to remember. The world has changed, people have changed and thats not going to stop.
If youre sitting around waiting for everyone to get in line with your 40 hrs should be enough for everyone line of thinking, get comfortable, it wont happen any time soon.
40 hrs pay may be good for some, & good for them. Some work OT because of child issues, schooling, debt, or dare i say it...aspirations to get the fuck out of this place and be able to never look back.
And the whole line of thought that we should all turn down ot for the good of everyone bullshit, well its just that. Bullshit. My bills are my bills, and my wants are my wants. You dont want OT? Good. Ill take it. I haven't yet and dont plan on starting to worry about anyone but my family first and foremost. If thats callous, tough shit. I live in the real world. And so do you. Get what you can while you can.
I hope everyone in the entire ford system can retire comfortably and squeeze 20+ yrs of pension out of the bastards. Good luck.

Bottom line is when we go back to 40 hrs we will still be making it like we are now with the OT.I personally can't wait till that day but I understand getting it if you want it..If everyone refused OT(break, lunch, staying over etc.) They would HAVE TO HIRE MORE WORKERS..That's a fact..And all this OT has to be setting us up for the possibility of a strike..Then they have all these stock piled units sitting at theaters, walmarts .While we walk chamberlain lane with no check..But I'm ready fuck it .Ill be one step ahead of these bastards. Will You?

Bottom line is...and back to the title of this thread...11 is a long day to work, your actually there for 11.5 hours and with travel time to and from work, it can be anywhere from a 12/13 hour day. We are older and our bodies don't hold up like they used to. I can't imagine what a line time of 11.5 everyday would be like. Something has to be done! Paint currently breaks down all the time and they know that they have the 11 hour cushion and they use it for all 3 crews!

If everyone refused they would get the union to agree to 12 hour workdays and mandatory Saturdays & Sundays. Just work it, bank it, & vote NO in september & relax knowing your good for a 6 month strike because you banked your OT & profit sharing......hopefully that is what everyone is doing with all the extra cash...

My wife was raised in a good catholic family. Dad was a union electrician. Mom raised the 7, yes 7 kids. Dad worked every minute he could to take care of them, but they still had to wear homemade clothes til some kids were grown and gone. My wife still remembers the first store bought jeans she ever got, hell, I wouldn't be surprised if she still has them (no they won't fit lol) . It's all true, so blackbird, unless u r wife is making clothes for ur kids, ur prolly doin ok.

You said yourself that our salary isn't what it used to be and it never will be again, it's not just ford it's every where. That's why old fashioned lifestyle doesn't work anymore comfortably, plenty of women in here our working to help support their families.....not being negative I hear all the time from men struggling to support their family while the wife is at home. I think it's admirable if you can afford it. I'm not bashing like others I just wish some of the wives would help their husbands.....

Everything costs more these days. Know why? 1 is because of the massive trade deficit which creates inflation 2 is because the federal reserve is printing stimulus money (QE) outta thin air, which in turn devalues the dollar and creates more inflation. The stock market is bloated right now more then ever. Mostly with debt bonds and the like and there's absolutely no way out of it. Prices will continue to rise until eventually the market will "correct" itself and that will be painful. We've been totally sold out by our government, our company and our union. It's not just the democrats or the republicans, it's all of them!! Like at least 99% of all politicians are totally sold out. I hate to be all doom and gloom but it's the God's honest truth and I only see things getting much worse in the future.

Thisplacesux is 100 % right. Most people have no clue what is coming down the road. Our current economy is not sustainable , it's all built on debt and will undergo a major " correction" at some point. Just like it did in 1929, only this time it will be much much worse. Most American families have little to no savings. Plus 92 million people in this country are not in the workforce , most of whom receive at least some government assistance. Figured properly the actual unemployment rate is actually around 17 %. Millions would already be in bread lines if not for EBT. The whole thing is a house of cards. It will fall.

Yeah no kidding. My grandad used to tell me stories of the Great Depression and how tough they had it back then and they lived on a nearly 1,000 acre farm and were nearly self sufficient, as were a lot of people in those days. Now-a-days most people don't even know how to "cook" a grilled cheese sandwich! Could you imagine the chaos? People are so used to their technology and luxuries these days (me included) it's gonna be 100 times worse the next go around. I hate working OT as much as the next guy /gal but it really wouldn't be a bad idea to use that OT money to buy some preps just in case...

Well, actually inflation is almost non-existant. Its been pretty low for some time. DEFLATION has been the big concern.
But, tom-A-toe tom-AH-toe
