The money does suck, but by the looks of a lot of the new hires, what else do they have going on? Unless there are paying jobs out there looking for people with a shit load of tattoos, shit hanging off their face and using fuck every other word, Id say this is probably pretty good. But what do I know?
Oh well, Ford gets what they pay for.

Probably a good idea to see if they can walk to their jobs from the parking lot without almost passing out....
I've seen a couple that look like they were going to need a good sit-down-catch-my-breath at 5:55

Most of the new hires ((less than 3 yrs )) Ive been around work harder at getting out of work than working.

In actuality the money is really not that bad for someone right out of lets say high school and living at home. It is BS that it's going to take 8 yrs to top out on a 4 yr contract but the added bonus for them is the benefits.

How long did the new hires have to work last year to get a small portion of the profit-sharing?

See them every morning going to training class at LAP. Every thing from pants on the ground to white guy with dread locks. This new class of workers is kind of comical to look at.

Not enough money to hang around...too many places paying more vs. waiting 8 years to make money. You sure about that? there were 5000 applications for 2000 jobs that were gone by noon the first day.
If you think it's so easy out there, you must be talking about another city in another state.

I agree ..But if you have any kind of skill or trade experience there are,and always will be jobs paying 17-28$ an hour..That's the catch none of these kids have a trade or skill to get a job with. Therefore 17$ an hour is great..Its sad but there companies in America that are begging for Welders ,plumbers,etc..I thought I was just taking the easy way out of school when I took welding for 3 years in high school but now that I've been welding for 35 yrs I'm glad I have that to fall back on or make extra cash..

One new hire working on chassis said out of 40 that started with here only 5 were left in just 2 weeks Conversely out of the 43 I hired in with 23 years ago I think only 2 have left. and the rest of us are still here slaving away serving our 30 to life.

You need to understand there used to be 100,000 applications for 2,000 jobs at FoMoCo in the early 90s. I'll tell you the same thing I would tell my son...learn a trade if you can't get a degree...even better, learn a trade over a degree. If you have a skill, you can always make money...whether it be electrical, heating/air, plumbing, carpentry, general construction/home building, etc... There is so much money to be made out there as long as one is willing to work.

Another example, one of my best friends has been at Bill Collins as a mechanic for over 20 years...he said they are losing the old people with no one to replace them. The kids they hire have no skills, don't want to come to work, etc...

The last 2 times we got apps to hand out I couldn't give it away..I think it's a mixture of up bringing and lack of work ethic..Plus there's a lot of better jobs out there..Overall better .not pay..

I have kids getting ready to graduate. I'd rather them serve an apprenticeship and have a trade than graduate from college with more debt than they'll ever escape from..... No reason any kid in the louisville area should graduate with school debt if they choose the college route. UPS "earn & learn" pays 100% of tuition & books, plus bonuses for each year finished (fresh, soph, junior, & graduation) work 3-4 hours a night, its enough cash for a kid to live on while in school. Start at like 8.50 an hour and by senior year making about 11.50 an hr. Have had 2 kids go through it, its basically a free ride if they go to work every night. College isnt for everyone but if they want to go & dont get a scholarship anywhere I would highly recommend it. Both mine graduated debt free & only thing it cost me was $85 for some of the classes they took online so they didnt have to go down to campus.

One new hire today said, when asked why he wasn't actually doing anything, "I just want to watch for a whole day".
