New paint has to be the easiest. 20 jph tops and work is gravy. New-hires holds days.

Till October 2016.then it will be C crew for them... Mastersons ( I think that's close spelling) internationally set up new paint with over 80% new hires. That's all three shifts. I don't know how long new hires will hold day shift, there's not that many people who can role them.

New paint has to be the easiest. 20 jph tops and work is gravy. New-hires holds days. Do you work there? How many of those jobs do you know? 20 an hour? 5 an hour or 105 an hour, makes no difference. The jobs will be set up to keep you as busy as possible, so the slower the line the more you do per job. Line speed is irrelevant. Driving a fork lift in the body shop has been the easiest job I've had so far, but not all those jobs are equal. As for a specific job, they change so often that you can't count on any one of them being good or bad, or existing at all six months from now......

Yes I work there. If I'm not mistaking they polled the whole plant before they put all new-hires in there. Big mistake by the old-timers

Yes I work there. If I'm not mistaking they polled the whole plant before they put all new-hires in there. Big mistake by the old-timers I would imagine they canvassed the whole plant, the people in the whole plant who were signed up to go to paint. As far as canvassing the whole plant population, no they didn't. Why would they? Now, maybe certain committeemen that had their head on straight and cared told their people to sign up for paint, but my area was never surveyed for it. I don't know anyone who was just asked out of the blue if they wanted to go to paint. I'm not bitching, but people keep saying the whole plant was canvassed. That didn't happen. I don't know why it would. If someone wanted to work in paint it's up to them to put in for it, otherwise it becomes available work.

Any area of the plant involved in the new truck is easy now. So what paint is doing 20 an hour, you been in the new bodyshop? Hell they havent ran 20 jobs this week. Stamping is basically a wasteland right now, only stamping 1 metal part for KTP right now. Alot of easy gigs right now, if your in one of them just enjoy it because it wont last. Most the older guys didnt go to those departments because they took bid jobs and alot of them havent been moved just yet. 6 months from now it will be balls out in paint/body/stamping and the old guys that didnt know what they were doing will be just fine on their bid jobs. Circle of life at the ole plant.

Actually seniority is very high in both depts..I've been in body 11 now and for the most part it's about the same group..It will change though. But paint and body are the easiest by far...Just hot as hell..

Anyone could've had a departmental transfer in at any time... I never understood why ppl didn't have them in for body, paint, and stamping if they worked elsewhere. First thing I did when I transferred to KTP... Put one in for stamping.

Most people are afraid of change. To the ones that are I suggest you go watch them do the jobs.

Tiger66. when the new Aluminum truck is launched, the new paint shop will be painting the majority of our product. Paint will be doing 4 times that amount by then. What is now an easy job may become hell by that point. They always set new systems up like that.
I would like it if you would revisit this thread after we are running all Aluminum units please

Will do. They will have to modify the new shop to run more than about 22-24 hr. I bet they will cut-out a lot of jobs.

The new paint department is for U's only, with I'm sure a to be announced later new product. Old paint will continue to run P's as its pretty much already been retrofitted for the new aluminum p558.

If you enjoy heat in the summer then paint is for you. It's hot as hell in there!

Seniority is like a big bill, say a $20 bill. $17 will get you a crew, or $15 gets you a department. $5 may get you a team. Some of one, but not all of everything. Choose your poison wisely...
