Police used tear gas and rubber bullets on some “hippies” at an anti wall street protest. It doesn’t matter what you think about them this is an unacceptable amount of force on citizens. This nation is starting to act like a third world country. www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0cDqeO8aL0

Brutal, yes. But tear gas smells better than dirty hippies. I can imagine something similar being said during the civil war. You claim to believe some of the things that they are fighting for, yet you're amused at heavy handed police actions against them. Says a lot a about you.

Strange, were not seeing all of the media clips of people sitting around singing. Maybe the whole hippy thing was just a way to put the movement in a bad light... Na that would never happen in america.

If they are using tear gas and rubber bullets for no reason then its wrong. If the people in protest are stealing or making threats etc..Then shoot them

Right, people in New York and Louisiana say some off the wall crap so lets gas the people in Oakland and Georgia. Brilliant. Sounds like Bush is still running the show. One group of people attacks you, what do you do? Attack a completely different group of people that have nothing to do with the first. The commissioners excuse was that they were being pelted with bottles and harmful chemicals as the reason to use excessive force. About 1 minute 50 seconds into this clip the cops start putting gas masks on. No bottles or anything else was thrown. They knew before they went in that they were going to use gas. www.youtube.com/user/guslto99#p/a/u/1/3eUGCVVNOnA

....noooooo, gas people in oakland ..... so local governments there.... dont have to deal with the Bull shit that OWS created in NY......(before its too late)....
As the Occupy Wall Street drug parties protests continue in New York city, violent crime is running rampant as police resources are being allocated to keep occupiers in check, leaving those who really need police protection helpless.
Bullets are flying over Broadway -- and everywhere else in the city.
The number of people shot surged 154 percent two weeks ago -- to 56 from 22 over the same week last year -- and spiked 28 percent in the last month.
Last week tallied another increase in victims -- 22 people had been hit through Friday, including the three victims gunned down outside a Brooklyn school Friday.
Last year, only 17 shooting victims were logged for the entire week.
The recent gunplay has now pushed the number of shooting victims this year slightly above last year’s tragic tally -- to 1,484 from 1,451 -- through Oct. 16.
Four high-ranking cops point the finger at Occupy Wall Street protesters, saying their rallies pull special crime-fighting units away from the hot zones where they’re needed.
Since Occupy Wall Street took over Zuccotti Park on Sept. 17, the NYPD has relied heavily on its borough task forces, the department’s go-to teams for rowdy crowds.
But such protest duty takes the special units away from their regular jobs -- patrolling public housing and problem spots and staking out nightclubs plagued by violence, supervisors said.
“Normally, the task force is used in high-crime neighborhoods where you have a lot of shootings and robberies,” said one source.
“They are always used when there are spikes in crime as a quick fix. But instead of being sent to Jamaica, Brownsville and the South Bronx, they are in Wall Street.” So, on top of costing New York taxpayers over $2 million in overtime payments, occupiers are costing people their lives. Sidenote: New York's strict gun control laws are also to blame for a spike in violence because they make it impossible for innocent citizens to defend themselves against violent criminals, especially when the cops aren't around.-----Katie Pavlich

Last night the local tv tried to push the same idea that the cops were at fault and simply randomly attacking protesters. Then they swung to a reporter that was asking a cop why they were using tear gas in such an obviously provacative manner. The problem was, the cop they were asking was covered in paint and other 'stuff'. (I guess he must have come to work like that.) He explained how he had grabbed a 'protester' that he saw throwing a rock and was putting plastic handcuffs on as part of the arrest. He then said that ~200 other 'protesters' then pushed in close and started hitting him and throwing more stuff, eggs and such. He then stated that was the point at which they used tear gas. They immediatly went back to 'earlier footage' and claims that it was all the fault of the police.

The reason the middle class is going away is because of the two party's we have now they both have sold us out with so called FREE trade crap.BOTH SIDES not the Rs or Ds BOTH! Just a few days ago the Mexican truckers can now bring good right from mexico to the door of Ford. This is while we have Obama in the white house and also he just signed Free trade with Korea. So dont be blaming just RICH republicans you also have to blame the rich Dems.
You also put to much regulation and tax on a business and they ship jobs out.
Thats why I buy American made and owned as much as I can and please dint give me the crap you just cant find stuff,I do it all the time.

Police brutality is uncalled for. But when the Oakland police gave warning 1 DAY AHEAD of time to clear the streets, the people did not leave. California has had more then one event where the fruits and nuts started rioting and destroying whole cities. Oakland officials did not want this to happen. I dont know if you have ever been to Oakland Ca, but I have. Its not an idea place to be and especially after dark. Another note: These Occupy people for the MOST PART are unemployed dirt bags, that would rather live off welfare or in mom and dads basement all their lives. Why arent these POS looking for jobs instead of sleeping in the parks at night and protesting all day? Last I checked every fast food place and local dept store was hiring. I worked BS jobs, and worked 2 JOBS AT THE SAME FUCKING TIME WHEN I WENT TO COLLEGE! (EDIT: And 2 jobs now!) Sure there may be some protestors that are legit that got burned by the system, but I see very few of them on the news. Then on the other hand you have people who screwed themselves by living beyond their means. I worked by two different people at Ford that filed Bankruptcy because they did not know how to control their spending and or drug habbits. Blame the "MAN" for your troubles? BS, blame your self.

One of the reasons this movement decided to not have a leader is so that they do not get hijacked by one of the parties. They are against wall street period. Party affiliation is irrelevant. Because they are saying rich does not mean they are referring to republicans.
As far as the protesters, they were actually moving to a different site that was in threat of being shut down. The reason they had a clash is because the police blocked the roads so they could not support them. I did not see any violence from this group of people.
You assume they do not have jobs and are not looking. With 14 million unemployed the majority do not have a choice. There is more to these groups than the label of parasites given to them by propaganda machines.

Marcus, we agree on the free trade being a negative issue for workers. Ask yourself this, who was responsible for pushing free trade through legislation? Before someone tries to blame a political group, who pushed the politicians to open up trade agreements? I hope we came to the same answer on this one, but that would be the 1%. The same group that can ensure victory or defeat to politicians in the next election. Government regulations are things like the nlrb that gives basic workers rights. Osha tries to prevent companies from working employees in unsafe conditions. It is regulations that keeps us from working in sweat shop conditions. Deregulation works out great for business owners because they do not waste money on things like safety equipment or overtime. Just like some have suggested that Buffet should volunteer to pay more in taxes, because he states that the rich do not pay enough, the ones that do not like regulations should also volunteer to return any overtime pay to ford since that is a regulation. Taxes are about the same. We can give up the lead spot in military power, let the roads decay, and never rebuild them. It just depends on what we are willing to give up in the name of corporate profits. In your last sentence, you are right, we have not lost our jobs "because the 1% are getting richer." We are losing our jobs and pushed into poverty so that the 1% can get richer by avoiding their responsibility to workers, the environment, and the government that provides the conditions for them to earn a profit. That is why occupy wall street exists: profits for the 1% while the 99% pay the price for their excessive greed.

They wanted to start the same shit like the middle east went through. They wanted turmoil and chaos and to overthrow our entire system. EDIT: Removed link due to virus threat. Just Google USA day of rage. These are the idiots responsible for OWS. And Ktpelc, you are no different then a heckler at a show. You never contribute facts, you just want to razz those with different views and stir the shit pot.

That is why occupy wall street exists: profits for the 1% while the 99% pay the price for their excessive greed. WTF? Were you sleeping under a rock in the 80's and 90's? In my economics class we had to write about the Free Trade fiasco, and this was before it was actually signed by Clinton. Companies and CEO's here in the US even were against its signing. IBM, Bethleham Steel, Eastman Kodak were just a few that I can remember giving protest to congress before NAFTA was signed. So you want to talk greed? Ok, you make about 50% more money then the average factory worker. I think in all fairness, and you should too, that you should have to pay higher taxes and also give the extra 50% of your pay to those who dont make as much as you do. It is unskilled labor after all.
