The "Two Tier" vrs "Legacy" bullshit is the SINGLE WORST THING to ever happen to us. I'd give up any raise the next contract to get rid of that bullshit, and give them a path towards full pay. I can't imagine anything worse for a union shop floor than two different wages..............TERRIBLE! "entry level" employee here, its really hard to hear people who make $12 more an hour and will have pension and health insurance talk about how they haven't had a raise in 10 years. I'm not saying it's right, but hard to get us on your side. The way many entry levels see it is our pay and benefits were cut before we ever even had a chance. I hate the two tier. I voted no on every contract since I've worked here. The last uaw plant I worked in struck two contracts in a row to get rid of it. On the second strike the company closed the plant. The disconnection you feel from the legacy people is exactly how the company hoped you guys would react. Let me ask though, and not trying to be a dick. Would you rather there be no two tier and you didn't work here? You knew about the two tier when you got hired and you took the job anyway right???ask yourself honestly: why is that? I'll bet it's because it's still the best job you could find, and that's the exact reason why I took it back in '99. I will continue to vote no on every contract until one restores wage parity. I am willing to strike for wage parity, no matter the risk. But please, entry level people, be honest with yourselves about why you're here to begin with.

Its funny that I was just stating a fact and you are acting like I'm bitching. I'm pointing out the gigantic disconnect between the two tiers of employees.

We are the union, every last one of us, even if you don't believe it. We need unity and we need to be asking what can we do as a group to make things better. Also if anyone wonders yes I agree you all do deserve a raise and even if I don't get offered shit next contract and they call strike over you not getting a raise I'll still be out there next to you.

No, you don't get it. We are paying dues members who's voices are no concern of the IUAW. They wont listen and don't care about any one of us unless you are bobble head yes man/woman.

No, you don't get it. We are paying dues members who's voices are no concern of the IUAW. They wont listen and don't care about any one of us unless you are bobble head yes man/woman. The only thing we can do is voice our discontent with the IUAW(in private not out in the open), do everything we can at the local level to have an active membership, and unfortunately hope to God that the international, while making unpopular decisions are steering the union as a whole in the right direction. The unfortunate thing is something had to give somewhere and the dues increase was needed in the short term because of them raiding the strike fund and their inability to get raises or organize places like VW. Do I think it was a great idea to raise dues, no, do I think it was the quickest way to increase revenue, sure was. I think the dues increase would have been easier to swallow if there was some assurance that the strike fund will only ever be dipped into for just that, a strike. What we have to deal with is the situation at hand. Since we are now paying all we can do is push to get a return on our investment that we are (forcefully) paying. We are at a turning point where our union will either rise up and be an example of how unions work not only for the workers but for society as a whole, or fall into antiquity. I see a lot of fighting, and bickering amongst ourselves, and this entry level against legacy thing has to stop. Most entry levels only hear that you haven't had a raise in years, and knee jerk reaction is going to be "you make $12 an hour more than me". Not many of us(me included) know the full extent of what else you gave up and what the company offered. Tell us what you gave up. Tell us what the company wanted to pay us. I'd love to see something given to every new hire who is sworn in outlining that. Most importantly why haven't you had a raise in years. As soon as we get on the floor that's all we ever hear. Blame the union all you want, but why hasn't the company wanted to capitulate? I'll stop rambling on this note. When I worked at Cat(UAW 751) we would wear red shirts with the UAW logo on the back bigger than all hell. We had entire assembly lines show up doing that, it pissed off the company, but why? Because it showed unity amongst us. They even made sure when the president of the company visited the plant they kept him away from lines where we did that. Food for thought.

Back to the new hire stories.........and this is where we are now.....lol.
New hire (a few months) bitched that some senior employees working on a feeder line weren't doing their job the way he thought they should. So he called the union out to get the feeder line sped up......There are some other details open for debate, but THIS is why some of us with 20 years in think the place is F***** with some of these newer people.
This is night shift. That's right, new hire, on night shift is already calling people about other people's work load and line speed.

That team should vote him on that job and then asked for it to be sped up again..Plus I would ask him if he would like to join me for a beer after work:)know what I mean:(...And they wonder why

For sure I learned a long time ago if you need something to do your job and some asshole TL wont help you, just shut it down and sit there(Done it many times)When the authorities arrive inform them of asshole TLs actions and all of a sudden you get whatever you need.Weird how that works.lol,Most of the TLs(not all)have been there too long and are actually more of a supervisor than a leader of any team!!!Or they wanna be in management so they think being a dick will help them to the next level...When really all it does is cause them further issues down the road.
