Okay, let the bitch fest commence. I am being told from people at CAP and TCAP that when a LTS gets hired on...wherever he/she ends up, they can not be rolled or bumped by someone with more seniority? How could that possibly be correct? If someone with 20 years wants to roll a LST on day shift at Chicago or Twin Cities, they can't do it. The LTS has the right to stay where they are as soon as they are placed at other plants. Let's please set this up correctly at KTP before you deteriorate the already poor work environment and morale of the average KTP employee.

Scott, I can tell you that if someone is on days it will be for training reasons and when they get trained they will go to nights. Seniority is seniority and they will end up on nights. I don't know how or why that would happen but it will not happen here.
When I first got hired, I was placed on days for training purposes only. As soon as I got my training I went to night shift and to the team, job that I was training on.

According to a handout, LTS (Long Term Supplemental) employees will receive a raise every 26 weeks and will cap out after 102 weeks… If this is the case they are hiring “permanent” temps. If they work 1 year without interruption they become Entry Level workers. In other words they will drag these people out for 51 weeks tell them they are no longer needed on a Thursday and call them back on Monday, the same way they did the 90 day temps in the past. Why would they project raises out to 104 weeks if they do not plan on dragging out hiring them as permanent employees.
This is pathetic. We need language in the contract that if you work in the plant you are an employee with full wages and benefits. This temp crap needs to go.
Why are these people not being hired in as full time employees? 90 days is plenty of time to know if a person is a good employee, and they sure as hell do not need a year to determine if they need these people.

Really? Personally in my short 16 years, I have worked with more than I care to count brothers/sisters that have been "carried" by everyone else. They made it to their 90 days and laid down... In my opinion, everyone should stay on probation. If you work ok, if not hit the pavement. rant done

Permanent probation; If a supervisor doesn’t like you they can just “let you go,” if you ask them to pay you correctly or do not take on extra work. Now that sounds like a secure future for everyone.
It is not possible to hire 5000 people and not get a few bad ones. Just because someone is not a shining star employee does not mean they and their families should lose their financial stability.

ScottR, that will not be true here.
Due to the large number of LAP returning people in the U trim shop I can't say for sure this far out that some LTS people may not temporarily end up on days to get us started, but they will be rolled by anyone in those depts. that wish to roll them.
They will not have super sen. they will end up where their sen. takes them. Which will be night shift in final once it all shakes out.
We will be working through the dept to dept transfers and shift rolls to figure out where they all will go.

This is true Scott, just check out local 551facebook page and you will see the posting. We were not allowed to roll LTS's. So I would be hesitant to believe anyone who tells you that you will be able to.

Lemme put in my two sense.I am in C.A.P. LTS's can't be bumped or rolled here. They put a
bulletin up saying this specifically for anyone who wanted to sign up for days. There are two
guys from KY in my dept(body) that were on days and have gotten bumped to nights.Yet
they still have LTS's remaining on days in the dept.Another thing, they won't bid any classified jobs out up here.Very few,I should say. They put Utilities on the Classified jobs and avoid
paying the classification pay.LTS's are not supposed to be on classified jobs, but they are. They
also use them as utilities, but don't pay them.I personally have a grievance for doing a
classified job for a few months. They sure bidded my job out! They didn't like the idea of that
guy from KY having one of their good jobs.Superintendent placed me on a classified job telling
me that he had exhausted the bid.He told me to take a look at it and if I liked it,I could stay
on it.I told him I would take it if he classified me.His response was,"absolutely."Two
Bargaining Committeemen came through and explained to me that it had to be re-bidded.I
understand that. It's the way it should be. But I must say,I felt singled out and discriminated
against. I have never seen so many new hires placed in seniority positions or dept's.Just
giving ya'll some things to think about before placing these people.Could save yourself a lot
of headaches

I am sharing this information with the thought of L.A.P. We are going to have a lot of new faces once this thing kicks off and will be in LAUNCH Mode. It will be confusing to a degree.I hope that our Union has a game plan. I have faith that they will have a structured plan. Unlike this place. Might not be to everyones liking, but I will say that there will be structure.I could write a few war stories on here, but I'd be writing a book!

At LAP, a few years ago when they hired the temps, after the buy-out people left, it was the same thing there as well.
Some temps jumped onto gravy jobs on day shift. I know they were temps, but they paid union dues too and it was the union that let this happen.
Im sure the shit will meet the fan within a year of LAP's return.

That language should be a no brainer to remove during negotiations.

Ok we are speaking about two different things.
TPT and LTS are two different things. TPT's are meant not to get a full 40 hours, though some times they do, they are typicly hired to cover on Fridays and Mondays to cover AWOL's or heavy vacation times, which is why there is language to not roll them. That language is there because they should only be working less than 40 hours or only for a few weeks.
Not claiming it always works that way, but that is what they were intended for.
LTS, which should be entry level's should be for permanent openings. How this LTS thing got started is something we are trying to get a true answer to.
