This was at the end of that article something settles said:
“We are at the mercy of the arbitrator on that,” Settles said.
However, the union still plans to try to resolve the issue at the bargaining table because relying on the decision of an arbitrator can be risky.
This sounds like they are putting this all in the contract!
SETTLES IF A FUCKING LIAR!!!!!

What ever the arbitrator decides is the final word. It could be good or bad for us. This should have been settled a long time ago.

Why has the arbitrator been dragging their heels? Sounds fishy to me...

Why has the arbitrator been dragging their heels? Sounds fishy to me... simple...neither side wants it settled. ford doesnt want to pay out the money, and the IUAW wants it rolled into the contract. that way the signing bonus will be greater, and thats about the only way a contract will pass.

Jimmy Settles has stated that the negotiations are moving ahead of schedule. Does that mean he's buckling sooner than usual? Remember his motto: The membership may strike, but Jimmy "settles".

finally,something worth talking about!!!!
yes, the strike vote is done every time, buts it is interesting how settles almost seems to be apologizing for it. this whole article is just pr spin imo.
it seems to me ford has been one step ahead of the uaw for a while now. think about it. they wanted to open the contract for concessions a couple of times because they thought we wouldn't take all those cuts at once at contract time. also we wouldn't agree to any at all if there was a turn around in the business. they also know we will not strike to get gains, only to stop concessions. the union will be dropping that one on us soon, i predict.
now they want to roll settlement of a violation of the last contract into negotiations for the next contract, and the union is saying thats a good idea.yes you take a chance with the arbitrator, both sides do but thats the agreed on process so lets use it.i would call it bad faith bargaining, but thats usually only attempted by one side, trying to get over on the other. this seems like either the union rolling over,or just plain old getting outsmarted again.

LMAO...so true...but they are depending on our 'yes' vote...so I would love to see the looks on their faces when the membership sends a strong message of unity on the shop floor. No one has our backs outside of each and ever plant...the I-UAW has seats on both sides of the negotiating table with VEBA now...many of us knew VEBA was a HORRIBLE idea...and we are getting ready to see one of many reasons why.

I agree with Scott. We need to send the first contract back with a big NO VOTE.

If they wanted to keep everything as it is, and roll in the grievance to the contract, and have a signing bonus of 30k. I would still vote NO !
