Let's say (heaven forbid) your house burns down and you have little choice but to move in with your brother and his wife. She's a lousy cook and his kids are absolute monsters but, it's a place to stay. Every day you remind your brother how great your house was and how his is a total dump. He does his best to be cordial to you and your family. Finally your new house is finished, shiny new and modern. You move out and the first thing you do is send your brother a letter telling him how great your new house is how his will always be a dump and how glad you are you aren't living there anymore. Everyone get the point? No one put a gun to anyone's head to go to KTP. Is it perfect? Far far from it. But it's our home and we chose to be here. Most of us welcomed our brothers and sisters because we knew, that but for the grace of god, there go we. Personally, I'm glad you LAP'ers had a choice and a place to go to help your families thru the uncertainty of LAP's downtime. But please, don't slap us by telling us what a shithole we work in. Like you,we have and had a choice. We chose KTP, and it's our home. If nothing else, respect OUR decision. Thanks to all of you for the hard work you did while a member of OUR family and may your remaining years at LAP be all you hoped they would be.

Everyone from LAP wants you to think that it's the greatest.....I worked there from 1989-1995 and it sucked just like KTP...both had nice people and not so nice...but to say one was way better then the other...no so. I came back to Ktp....that's how great LAP was.

It probably all depends on what department you were in at one plant and which department you landed at in the other. It also depends on the members of your team and the management you work with. I had worked with some great people at LAP and was fortunate to have some fair bosses to work for. At KTP, I have made some great friends but been stuck on some pretty bad jobs in trim with bosses who seem to be pissed off at all times. Looking forward to returning to LAP, but realize that it will be different and I will have to start off all over again. But I am thankful that I had the opportunity to remain employed in Louisville during this transition and am very thankful for the friends that I met.

Great post Almost30. I've met some good people from LAP. I'm tired of the ones that are always bitching how bad KTP is. LAP is going to be a whole new ballgame when they go back.

Great post but lets make it alittle more accurate. The brother and wife are NOT happy about you moving in because dad made them do it. Everytime you see your brother you tell him to go back home. You mainly dont like your brother because he was the first born. You have trouble dealing with this you try to make his stay as unconfertable as possible. Now brother shows up (he is second born) and this really pisses you off, because you are further down the food chain then once thought. Because brother #2 will have option to stay or go back to his shinny new and modern house, you make his stay also unconfertable. Both your older brothers think your house is very nice, maybe even nicer then their old house and love the location of it. both older brothers tolerated your antics because while you were at work we were tag teaming our sister in law. Even though dad didnt put a gun to our heads and make us move in with you, he didnt much of a choice ( have a place to live or not ). Since our sister in law is smoking hot ,most of us will stay for awhile. Because brother#2 caught the drips from the sister in law he will be moving out. In a month or so dad might offer all the brothers money to move out of HIS houses again. So if you dont like living with your older brother here is your chance (again) to move out.
GOOD LUCK brother #2 hope your new shinny moderm house is awesome, keep up the good fight and will trully hate to see you leave. keep it real and Know your enemy..... its DAD not your brother or sisters

Been in both plants, same crap different locales, miss traditional operating agreement, miss LAP's union leadership, never thought I would say this, miss LAP management, never had a problem with a buckeye, wolverine, or Georgian. Would love to see how the assholes that made life hard on the transplants would react to having to pick up their family and move 3 states away just to keep their job. For anybody in either plants to still be holding any animosity towards anybody that transfered into KTP or LAP, quit being little bitches. Get over yourselves. You people need to get out more, Ford isnt the destination, its the means to an end.

Feel the love...as long as our union brothers/sisters spend more time helping one another vs. throwing each other under the bus all the time, it would be a much better place. I do believe the team concept really hurt the relationships of the workers on the floor...which had to be the goal of the company. All the suck asses and litle bitches ruin it for everyone...bringing the morale and work environment to a level which should never occur. I've never seen so much back stabbing in all my life as in many areas I've worked in at KTP. Whether it was a union brother telling the boss you worked up the line and left early...a team leader intentionally filling in your pay incorrectly everyday...a union brother finding out someone got paid for a day they didn't come to work only to go tell the super he wasn't here (which I've seen happen three times already)...teams creating their own "special rule" book to remove seniority entirely from the equation...team leaders telling supervisors which jobs to add work to...the list goes on and on.

Scott, I'll see you @ lap when third shift gets added. Haha As for the sister in-law, shes in an abusive relationship and has become co-dependent and needs an intervention. The bizarro world has become her norm and she just can't see it. Couldn't resist. Remember, karma's a bitch when it bites!

@scottr@KTP I have seen some of those things happen that you referenced and they all were done by our friends from Ohio. The ones I have had the pleasure of working with (NOT) seem to enjoy ratting out their co-workers and sucking up to the bosses. As far as the team concept goes...I like it. I would much rather deal with my team leader than the bosses. And I guess I have been fortunate in that I have had good ones. They take care of us...try to cover us when we're late and absent. They speak up for us when the bosses come down on us. As far as the LAP people go....haven't met one I didn't like. For the most part they have been hard workers.

It's not a house, it's not a home....it's a shitty factory. Why take any of this nonsense personally? KTP sucks, LAP sucks, Ford sucks. This is simply what we do Monday through Friday so we can buy stupid shit we don't need. Why defend any thing/place that is going to chew you up and spit you out in 30 years just so you can die shortly thereafter?

I dont plan on dying shortly after.
We all would like to get paid doing whatever we want, whether it be sitting on the couch watching the tube and our stomach get bigger, flipping burgers, building autos, or sitting in court. Its a job, plain and simple, what do we go there for? TO GET A PAYCHECK ! Benefits are a big added bonus, so yeah, that part still made Ford a good place to work when I hired in, but thats going down the toilet now.....
At LAP, I got along with everyone, had it easy most of the time, and had to work some of the time. I worked next to people for over 8 years, and didnt even know their seniority. Once the layoff/trimming of workers started, I then started to know more about where I stood, which was not good, I did my best, training a worker here and there on a job, and even a KTP'er that got my job as I got loaned out for my final days. Turned out, I had the chance to keep working, and it was off to KTP I went.
Its a job, so I took it like that, and figured I have had it easy for many years, so I looked forward to a life in Trim. From day one, once I was loaned out, it really shocked me how a few were loaned out to a certain area, the Supervisor said ok, I have these jobs, and this one is a terrible job, the other two are not as bad, which one of you has the lowest seniority? Ok, that was a first for me, we being from LAP shrugged our shoulders, and let them put us where they put us. I noticed this every time people got loaned out, and fellow workers would do their best to crap on the lower guy to try and get it easy. Now I did find alot of guys and gals not like this, but alot also were horrible about this.
Working at KTP also taught me about medical. How people cheated the system to get out of work...I wont go into this much, cause we all know what Im talking about....
I also remember multiple times things happening at LAP, and management trying to do this or that, and the union stepping in and saying no your not, you cant do that, this is how its done. Out at KTP, it wasnt done that way, for instance, one day I go in, and carrying in my lunch, I pass a buddy from Trim, hey, we are not working, the canceled tonight. I was like ok, well im here, and my lunch is getting cold, I went on in. Now this is about 4pm. I see some others inside complaining, about hey I didnt get called, I want my pay! About 4:20, my wife calls, and says Ford just called and said your shift was canceled tonight. We all try and find some union reps, and cannot find any, we eventually find bosses, and they tell us to go home, we mention signing something, so we get our pay, they say your not getting paid, tonight is canceled. At LAP, lists were taken of ones that came to work, and they got the extra pay, crap like this dont happen there. Bosses trying to knock someone off their job due to medical placement when the person on the job has more seniority...list just goes on and on.
Now, for a few that are in the Union, Todd, Danny, and a few others, they are great, and I hope they get to climb that ladder and make things better for those who need it. Hopefully no more bad apples in there sitting up at the local bar ignoring your phone calls.
I wouldnt of had a problem staying, I like my benefits and pay, and the people on nights on trim line 2-4 in SD made it a more positive place to work most of the time. I had the chance to get more pay, and have a shorter distance to drive to and from work again, and maybe a chance to get a shift to see my family more, so yea, I went back home to LAP. So all, lets build some autos, get paid, and remember to VOTE NO if we all dont get what we want!

Both of these things occurred at LAP also, the medical game, every day. We had one guy that knew how to play the system so well that one Friday he said to me & a co-worker "watch this" he called the boss down & told him he had a doctor's appt. The boss said sorry you didn't tell me about it beforehand. He went to medical & they let him go home, he didn't come back until Wednesday of the next week, bragging about how he had been at bike week over the weekend in South Carolina & how he got away with it. He did this kind of thing routinely.
