Heard from a guy that we are getting an additional building constructed for a new body shop?Anybody have any info?Supposingly when they tie it into the existing bodyshop there could be some down time. But they havent even started construction on it.Im guessing it will cut out some more jobs in body due to automation. There have been several people I know who came back from xmas shutdown to find that their job was being done by a Robot.

I probably shouldn't say anything, but I heard through a reliable source, that the new construction is a go. It will house the new body shop for the 2014 Ranger, like the one built in S. America. No wait, it's for the new Bronco. Hold on, I had my rumors crossed, it's for the diesel 150. No my bad, it's for the long awaited military truck Dicky Sutton told us about. Hang on, my phone is ringing....sorry, was just told, they ran some van bodies through paint last night to make sure theyll fit, looks like we will be getting that.
Who knows what's going to happen around this joint, I'm still holding on in hopes of them having us build a new Torino! Fingers crossed!

tryingtomakeit, you are so funny and correct.. Seems like everytime that Holy Order Bank gets low, the construction talks begin.. "What are we going to do " I transfered a fews years ago to get away from actually a (1) product plant... It's aways going to be that way.. No flexability !!! I do wish we would of made that Tonka Truck they brought to the plant to teaze us .. Just saying...

Haven't we had enough time off in the past few years? Geesh!!! Take a leave of absence or how about you just quit. We don't need you if you don't want to work.

I bet you two gifted truck assemblers voted yes in the contract. I guess me having a business and a life outside of this place sorta makes me forget that theres wonderful people like you all that work here.Im entitled to my opinion on here,I come to work everyday and if I hope for time off, thats on me .I LOVE EVERYONE...PEACE BE WITH YOU. How's that for an edit? SR

First off I didn't call you any names. And not that it's any of your business but I did vote NO on the contract. And most people that work here don't have a second job or side business. As for the name calling and hatefulness, it's uncalled for and unjustified. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but we can disagree without all of the negative comments and name calling.

Sounds like metalman is stressed and overworked. He definitely needs to give up one job or the other!

Yeah, you all can fight til your fingers hurt from typing but name calling isn't allowed. As for time off, I'm down for working every other week in 2012...but that's just me, I've never liked working here.

I don't like working here either, but it pays better than unemployment.

It doesn't pay a whole lot more, when you consider Unemployment and Sub Pay... I wouild retire now if they would pay me Unemployment plus Sub the next 10 years.. Of course sub would run out if no one worked, Living a dream, No I don't have another job.. Just saying... Waiting for retooling at LAP.... Take your time.. haha

Well let me put it this way I have a really good bid job,on nights, and I hate to give doing nothing up.Heehaw.And I have a small business on the side so I work hard for myself and laze around at work>Heehaw. Ill bet you theres a whole lot of people that would enjoy some down time.It sounds to me (just me though)that your one of the many people that are living beyound there means?Cant afford to miss one hour of work sorry,Brother.Sorry about the name calling it just gripes my ass when I here workers say that this is such a great place to work>Im greatful and if it wasnt for the pay it would be just another job. by the time I retire 10 more.It will be a median job at best.PS EDIT THAT.That was pretty funny though.

I would much rather have $1196 from working 40 hours, than $821 from sitting at home. That is an extra $24,700 a year. It pays to work!

Metalman,
Sounds like you are the one living beyond their means. You are the person with two jobs. LOL!

After you consider taxes, (State,Fed,Local,FiCA,) your $1196 is pretty close to $838.. Unemployment plus Sub... I'm getting in the $700's bring home per week .. An extra $100 a week is NOT an additional $25k .. More like $7,000 bring home... Making more $$ an having the goverment rob us is not making more.. I look forward to working again.. sadly though, it only bearly pays to work... Granted we did not get profit sharing... Who knew we would ever get that again.. haha

You have to pay taxes on Sub-Pay and Unemployment as well. Take that off of your $838 and let me know what you come up with.

As for what they will do for our future body shop. As things normaly go around here I believe it is waaayyy to far out for them to truely have and concrete plans. Probably alot of proposals. But 2014 is a long way off.
As to down weeks. We have changed bodyshops twice without a down week so I doubt a future change would be any different. They would lose something around 14k a minute for the trucks not coming off the line plus paying UE and sub. Idling us to put in bodyshop would make terrible business sense. Not that anything would suprise me, but I doubt any change will include much downtime. IMO.
