Need a little info from the rest of the plant. At contract time, we were told tha team sizes would reduce to 10 operations and TL's would receive a raise due to increased responsibilities. Well, in body team size is increasing, and TL's being cut out. Is this happening elsewhere? Hearing no raises now. Do we have a local contract yet?

All we are hearing right now are rumors...I heard that they were definitely gonna be bid jobs and yes they are getting a hefty pay raise which will take them over $30 an hour. But I also heard that our BC will not make them bid jobs because if he did so it would be the end for him as BC. But they will be making about $30.26 an hour.

Cutting team leaders, increasing team size in paint. Even adding bid jobs to teams that can't be rotated cause they are bid jobs. They do what they want... Nothing new.

What is line speed at KTP for trucks ? Is expedition built on a separate line or same line, if different what is its line speed? Just curious.

In body they run down the same line. They then get go to paint then into separate trim shops. then both run down the same final line.

OK here is my two cent's worth and I am sure most of you will give me back a penny and a half.
Yes, in the National Contract the company wants the T.L.'s to be bid job's. Reason is, those jobs will change so that they no longer give restroom breaks to the people on the line. Instead they want them to take over some of the responsibilities that the supervisor's do now, That is why the hefty pay raise.
Our Building Chair, has stated that this local has already voted down the T. L.'s being bid jobs before but since the I.U.A.W. has already agreed to that, he might not have much of a leg to stand on. His only hope is to try to lessen the severity it will bring but how I do not know. Ford has already said it wants it and I.U.A.W. has agreed. Time will tell if and when we ever get a local contract to vote on. Don't expect it to not have something in there about the T.L. thing, cause I am sure something will be in there about it.

The team leader information is found under appendix J 46-47A of the contract book that was put up on the UAWire site during negotiaitions. The process to get the team leaders by contract is a selection process which Scott says he is not going to do. You don't want the company hand picking the team leaders. Scott does not want the jobs to go up for bids because on the last local they had them up for bid and that one issue is what caused the local to not pass the first time around. That language was taken out, kept the team leader election process the same and the contract passed. The company does not want the teams to go to the 10/1 ratio as stated in the contract so it is an issue that will not happen most likey due to the fact that both sides will not agree on a common process. Each plant has the right to try and implament this to fit the pattern that they work on.
I feel that the jobs should go up for bid. There are many ( a lot ) that don't. The difference now as compared to the last contract is with these jobs going up for bid, with the team size going to 10/1 will create about a 100 new jobs. That is a big deal and everyone needs to consider that fact.

I'm not hearing anything about team reductions on chassis. From what I'm hearing is that they will stay the same, about 14 jobs per team.

In body they run down the same line. They then get go to paint then into separate trim shops. then both run down the same final line. There are 2 Final Chassis lines, a fast line with automatic Gantry decking, that Expo/Navs and most Pickups use and a slower line with manual decking cranes that all dually and certain wheelbase pickups are built on.

Ask yourself this question. Do you really want the company hand picking the team leader? I am going to bet the answer is no.

That doesn't bother me at all because when some TL's get elected because his buddies pick him just because and then he becomes a JACK ASS to the rest of the team. Either way who ever gets picked the UNION won't help with anything...ROFL. Best thing to do is SHUT THE FUCKYOUGETTLEFINGER UP and get to WORK!!!

Let me get this straight, The company can "pick" the person who delivers your stock to you, the company can "pick" the person who checks your quality etc.
Yet people do not want the company to "pick" who their T.L is going to be. Keep in mind that most TL's are still working the line right alongside you. A bid job is a bid job and we need more bid jobs in the plant. Who in their right mind wants to stay on the line for 30 year's before they retire.
Truth is and I am sure someone will deny it, that the company can make any job a bid job if they so choose. Now any Union Rep, before you say no, remember what you always tell us........They can do that. The name on the building (or sign out front) says FORD not the UAW. Like I said before, I am sure Scott would try to save some face to us and try to get it as less of a shock as he can but I think those bid jobs will come someday. Or if they don't I guess I will be wrong but in either case be prepared to have it our contract (maybe).
That felt good to get off my chest, good luck.

Jobs paying $30.26/hour should be bid or began as an apprentice.

Jobs paying $30.26/hour should be bid or began as an apprentice. The problem with the TL job and other bid jobs is our local-my own committeeperson had the nerve to tell me that senority does not matter. He thinks it is up to the management to place us on jobs. If we do not have senority rights-what do we have left? That statement will come around and bite them right in the rear. When the 2cd tier people start out numbering us down the road and they change things to where they have more rights than us. 2cd tiers will have all the good jobs and we will be stuck on the line with 30 years senority because "senority does not matter". I'll be long retired, but people are going to have to realize we can not let this happen. In paint-the jobs that is getting referred to not being rotated is releif...that has ALWAYS been a bid job, but these people want to rotate it and forget about senority.

Not relief jobs .... Spot repair is what I was referring to. I don't know of anyone that wants to rotate relief in paint. All thou they used to not be bids jobs an was rotated by the team.
I think you have to have one or the other. Since the team concept is busted at ktp, because of many reasons. You go back to LAP style of doing things. I have been at KTP for my entire 17 years too. Some bids just don't work with a "team concept". So get rid of teams go back to classifications. Team leaders would never work being bids with a team concept, but if you bid it and tell him to take care of these certain people not following team rules it works. Just like loan out / utility some teams rotate it, some make the lowest, some bid them out within the team, some even go as far as rotating it on a sheet if they get loaned off the team. To bid it the team rules have to go, making it not part of the team anymore . Which is all fine, they just can't coexist period. Plus management never let the teams have the control or power they was supposed to, they could not let it go. When is the last time we had a team meeting? It's been years! Team concept is busted. Just a way to keep us fighting with each other(everyone trying to get over) and not management. Also everyone is a veichle assembly tech which let's management move manpower where ever needed. Go back to classifications and bids period.
About the relief, the thing is if the relief is part of the team yes. On the same drot and overtime sheet? The team can vote to rotate it yes. Or is it a bid by seniority that is on a team that cannot be rotated. So really it is not part of the team in which should get no vote. Or it's a bid by seniority that a person is in a class all to their self . If the relief is eliminated they become part of the team yes. Confusing?
Who was even hired in and trained on the team concept beside us 95's..I don't think 93's was. 98?99? I bet over half the people here was even trained in the team concept.

Bottom line is teams are to big. How can one man or woman take care of 14 people and their jobs effectively. Management only care bout the line running, nothing more, they worry bout repairs when it gets to shop. Quality is job 1, went out the door years ago, if we cant build a truck that starts when it gets to the end of line, really dont matter how much it hauls. Reduce team size quality will improve. Senority should rule period, until our local union gets it, nothing will change.

Whether it's relief, TL'er, repair, whatever........come on brother and sisters, SENIORITY must prevail ! Why after all these years do I keep hearing how this plant does it is different than that plant. It's because "WE" let them! It all starts with "us and ends with us", it was unheard of 20 yrs ago that a local building chair, barg rep, or even alternates would have less than 15-20yrs seniority. These individuals put time in on the line and had experience. They fought tooth and nail for the membership. When they stepped on the floor you knew they had your back and knew they werent going to take no crap! Unfortunately, times are changing and it's my own opinion that, seniority, solidarity, and brotherhood are a thing of the past. I wish i didn't feel this way but I'm not blind ....

its sad but true jeter3000, i miss the days when there may be a problem on the line, and you may have five or more committee members show up to handle the problem. now you have five or more members of management and maybe 1 committee member.force in numbers always worked. that is where the inexperience shows the most in this young union.not saying they are bad they just dont know how to enforce their power.

Yea we hav a local contract and our union has sold us out again! No 10:1 ratio, no TL raises both of these were listed in the national contract highlights, but according to local highlights they couldnt come to an agreement on these things. If there wasnt an agreement then how was it in the national contract, oh wait i know they only tell us the things that will make the contract sound good so it may sway some people to vote yes. I was personally told by scott e. that teams were going to 10:1 ratio and tl's were getn raises, guess he lied about that also but of course thats nothing new. Just like the $500 coupon the new hires get if they buy a new ford vehicles, that wasnt in the highlights because senior employees would have been asking when they get theirs. When they were told never, then that would have been more no votes.
