Well at Happy-land(LAP) that was never an issue for me. But you're talking about KTP. I hear they can do anything there.

It says that as long as you have no penalties for absenteeism, that you go ahead and AWOL. Come back in the next day, say "Thanks Dick for the day off, pay me a personal day for yesterday." Or something like that...

Marcus, by contract they have 2 days and the balance of the shift to return your slip back to you. What I suggest that you do is to turn the slip in, give your team leader and committeeman a heads up so that if they act like they don't want to give the day off to you, that your committeeman gets with the boss to make sure that you get the day off with pay that your requesting IF THE CALENDAR HAS NOT MET THE REQUIRED NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES THAT ARE TO BE OFF FOR EACH DAY.

Here's a question? Do they let you request a day off and instead of using the full 8 hours for the day off you just request to be paid for 4 hours. It allows you to have more personal time off during the year. Instead of 1 week off you get 2 weeks. But you can not AWOL and do it you have to fill out paper and request it. Do they let you do that? We were allowed to do that at my old plant. It's a good perk for the employee!

Not a plant rule.

Was a plant rule at DTP they had to do it as long as it was requested in advance, if it was left up to the boss we would have been out of luck.

Or something like that... It's also at the descretion of the Labor Rep. Also if they had so many AWOLs that it had an impact on production they will not do it. Just what I have been told.

Thanks brent that's what I thought.Could we put a letter out about this most people don't know this and my boss has a ego problem.Id like to show him he is wrong on this Marcus, the boss knows this already and I would like to think that all of our senior people knows this as well. At that point when the boss is playing with his ego, I don't even bother with them. I go to his boss right away to get the issue rectified. There have been some cases to where I just tell the person just take off because the calendar is empty and I will address the issue with labor for them to rectify the issue. There have been cases as well to where the boss tries to play with wording in the contract but after we discuss the issue, it all works out. I say this when dealing with a calendar that has spots open.

Marcus, it does not matter one bit. The contract states that they have to meet the 4.5% of the departments working number. The only way that you could be denied and still have spots open on the calendar is if two people are already scheduled off on your team.
The vacation is a set formula based on the number of people in the department with vacation time.
