I went into labor today to make sure they had the correct emergency contact number in my file. I couldn't remember the last time I'd updated it, so I was certain it was outdated, and I was going to put down a relatives cell phone #, in case I got hurt at work and was dead/unconscious/incapacitated or whatever and couldn't tell them who to get ahold of.
They told me the computer system will only hold 1 phone number (which naturally would be MY #, and not a next of kin), and of course I could put in someone else's number, but of course then my other family member would be getting my robo-calls, etc..
Now imagine this scenario:
You're on day shift and get run over by a forklift. They scoop up your mangled body, still clinging to life, and get an ambulance to rush you to the hospital.
Someone from the company or union calls the ONLY number you're allowed to have on file, and since your kids are in school and your wife works too, no one answers the phone.
They would go through your cell phone to find another number, but it got crushed by the forklift too.
Several hours and a few surgeries later, you're dead.
Your wife only finds out after she gets home and checks the voicemail, assuming someone bothered to leave a message. She could have left work to come to the hospital, but by time she finds out what happened, you're already cold and in the morgue.
All because we aren't allowed to have 2 phone numbers in our file.
This has to be changed. It's unbelievable to me that we cannot have a seperate Emergency Contact number....
Just thought the membership should know. Royce Epperson did say that he would bring this up when i talked to him about it.
