Had engine and trans fall today said chain broke .Like to know how they inspected the rest of chains? Oh!! Actually I'm surprised these things don't occur more often here! The inspection processes.... the checks and balances that are built into the system, and required by OSHA law are not followed by KTP.... I've brought so many issues to the company and union's attention, only to be met with full blown harassment.... So all I can say is.... should anybody get hurt by an object failing from an overhead suspension i.e. engine chain, hoist, frame hook etc etc PM me Your attorney will want my information

Shit.
Dave Farley tried to make me walk BETWEEN a safety rail and a turntable...........And he keeps moving up.
So NOTHING the compromises anyone's safety shocks me in the least.

The chain did not break. Some how the hook came off the hoist hook and hit the front of the frame and flipped. Thank God that nobody got hit. I was right there when it happened. This was a freak accident and they are still investigating the issue. This was not an operator doing anything wrong and the issue is being addressed.

I generally don't agree with much of what Brent says on here but he is 100% correct...I was involved with this issue last night and the chain did not break....apparently the engine was in a position waiting to be decked and when the frame came in it causes slack and allowed the chain to come lose from the eye...flipping the engine forward and snapping the safety cable...but the chain did not break or the engine would have fell down directly on the frame...it didn't, it fell end over end in front of the frame...and thankfully nobody was hurt...but the chain did not break.

Details are appreciated... Is the safety cable intended to support the weight when there is this type of failure? I know there are safety cable backups on virtually everything hanging from above...

down over 1 1/2 hours...it was approached on both sides very seriously...thought it was handled properly. A sleeve that has been request for months to be made up would have eliminated the potential of this happening and after the incident It was made in a matter of 1/2 hour and that should take care of this issue.

It only took 30 minutes to make something that was requested for months? That's typical around here. You can request, beg, and plead but they do NOTHING until something major happens or someone gets hurt.

You can request, beg, and plead but they do NOTHING until something major happens or someone gets hurt. Sorry! If nothing occurs, I gotta ask a question? What role does our safety reps / union reps play in getting a concern resolved? I mean you can show a situation that's wrong, and its like I don't know if they will fix it or not... Really?? The union is supposed to be the hammer, there are laws the company is violating, and the union is like... we'll speak to someone... Oh gee, I feel warm and fuzzy now. I understand trying to foster a working relationship, I get it... but bending over and the membership suffering is not a working relationship... More like one way street. As long as that one way relationship continues, situations like these will continue. This is not an isolated incident, but rather a systemic issue, checks and balances the union has at it's disposal need to be utilized, to help improve operating conditions on the floor... the Union Leadership needs to step up.... IMO
