TO ALL MEMBERS LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO COME AND VENT, SEEK HELP OR TO COME AND HELP OTHERS WITH YOUR ISSUES AND HOW YOU DEAL WITH THEM TODAY AS COMPARED TO NOT DEALING WITH ISSUES IN THE PAST AND WHERE THAT GOT YOU.
I am bringing this to the union meeting tomorrow under "new business" which will be held towards the end of the meeting. I am going to ask my union brothers and sisters to support a program that Dan Davila and I have wanted to start to help our members out. This program will only be successful if we get people to come and make this support group what it can be. We will also have the help of Mark Dowell as needed. I can only speak for myself when saying that AA saved my life.
Our meeting will be guided by the "12 step" program and what it has to offer. You don't have to be a recovering alcoholic, have a drug addiction or any addiction to work the 12 steps into your daily living. You just have to want to stop hurting and find people that have similar problems as you and see what they do to deal with those problems. You may have marital issues, you may want to stop smoking or dipping. What ever issue that you want to talk about we can. Anonymity is of high importance at this meeting. People are not going to share with others if they think that what is discussed in those rooms, don't stay in those rooms. This is something that needs to be respected by all.
So I hope to see as many as we can get out to the meeting tomorrow in support for this program. If you have any questions please feel free to call me in the office or on my cell phone 718-6596

thanks Brent for taking a big leap forward to help your fellow union members. I am sure this will help many many people. As stressers in our life make it hard to cope, but having a place to vent with trust is very important. I will pray for you in your new quest. the 12 step program is very well tested and works wonders for many. This includes Emotions anonymous and people who have to deal with all kinds of problems. Again thanks

Im all for it Brent. You know why. I could tell people how NOT to handle their problems. And yes the 12 steps can be used in all aspects of life as long as you work them.

I understand what you two are trying to do Brent but I don't think I want to be part of it at all. I hope you two get this approved but don't count on me to vote yes. You see, somehow, I don't think Union Member's need to know what other union member's are going through and there is no way 100% this stuff can be kept confidential. Too many people in the plant who wants to know everyone's business. Good luck and I do hope it works.

I agree, info will leak out and then a big situation will arise if not a dangerous one!

I disagree but I do see where you all are coming from. There are meetings all over town each and every day. Yes, people are going to talk about who they want to no matter what the situation is. Getting talked about is just part of life. People will judge others to justify to themselves that what they are doing isn't wrong. That is not the purpose of what is trying to be accomplished here. This is about having a place, a person and friends that want to help. It is about building a support group for all of us that want to attend.
Yes, I do hope that this goes through but if it doesn't then it is not the end of the world. All I want to do is to try and help people and to get help myself. This was brought to the E-board but they did not want to be apart of it or associated with this. To me that was troubling on why we wouldn't want to help our membership out. To me, this is something that will be very helpful to those that want to attend. I also hope that people do respect others and the issues that get talked about. I see a lot of UAW members around town in the AA rooms and truth be told is that people in here know a lot of the people that go and you don't really hear them being talked about. Now I am not saying that they don't get talked about but that is really neither here or there. If someone wants help then they will come and if they don't then I respect that choice. It all comes down to the body voting on this and no matter what way it goes, I will be fine with it.
