Well,it would seem that the new hires are getting the shaft again,I asked committee man about how to go about getting unemployment for the week of shutdown and was told that if you live in KY,u will NOT be getting unemployment due to new Ky laws regarding unemployment.I was also told Royce Epperson was working on something to hand out regarding this issue, obviously they know something now and it would be beneficial to let Ky new hires so they don't blow their inflation bonuses but not telling things till the last minute seems to be the norm!!So my guess is we shall get something regarding this issue the last day before shut down, nice job union way to look out for the new hires!!

Hey Boo, considering Ford pays for our unemployment insurance, maybe you should be mad at them and not our Union. They know the rules and I have'nt seen a handout from labor yet. Direct your anger where it belongs. Always expect the unexpected and put money away every week to cover youself just in case. At Ford you just never know when the next down week will be.

Unemployment is "Insurance" You have to pay in so many quarters before you are elgible to receive any benefits.. Its Ky state labor rules, Has nothing to do with Ford or anyone else... Some of these New hires might be able to claim on there old jobs for this down week...

So now it's Ford's and the UAW's fault you don't know the laws concerning unemployment elgibility? Wow!
You've known this shutdown was coming for how long? The information is there for you to have taken the time to find out for yourself if you were that concerned.
You should be gratefull that they are getting this info for you instead of complaining.

First of all, to address the UI info. Because of a change in state law last July when you file for unemployment, there is a waiting week before benefits begin. That means if you are only off for one week, you will not get paid. If you are off for multiple weeks, even if they are not consecutive, your will not get paid for the first week, but will recieve benefits the other weeks provided you have enought qualified earnings. If this applies to you, you will still want to file even thought you will not get benefits, because it will begin your initial layoff period and if we have any other down weeks for stock, sales, etc. then you will be eligible immeadiately.
Now, as to who to be mad at. It was the state legsislature that changed this rule to help balance the budget. They kind of slipped it in without much media attention and delayed the start until January 2012, so nobody really made a big deal about it at the time. You can still be mad at the union and/or the company for not putting out info sooner, but if you have been here anytime at all, you would be used to the fact that they wait until late in the week before shutdown to print that type of info.
Finally, if you are not eligible for vacation pay you might talk to your supervisor and/or your committeeman about volunteering to work during shut down. There usually isn't much of a chance of that for hourly people except maintenace, but this year because of all of the reprocessing work that they are doing trying to get the new Escape ready to ship, they may be working some people during that week. Assemblers might be able to drive cars and Utilities and Quality leaders will be working on repairs.
