Most people think if they are off work its a good reason. When someone else is off its because they are lazy or faking it.

the ONLY reason I cared when someone was off their job......abusing it or not.....is when I had to deal with someone else on their job that didn't like it and dogged it all day....which made it hard on me and everyone else that had to work in the hole all day, or work with bad fits that affected your job......or had to deal with some whiney ass all day......

Regardless if a coworker is good, bad, ugly, addicted, stupid, brilliant, perfect, or otherwise - NO UNION member should ever throw another union member under the bus to management or otherwise, period.
If your coworker needs help, offer him/her help. Brent Eskridge and Dan Davila offer help to those addicted. Coworkers in a union should bring each other up when they are at a low point - not grind them into the ground. Stand tall when your brothers down. Approach union officials if this is not possible.
If a union brother is rotten - approach your union first! Never go with the masses to crucify. You just may be the next.
Finally, everyone complains about the union. What you must understand is the people on the floor ARE THE UNION!!!! The ones in the office represent the union of people. If the floor does not stand together - the ones elected are powerless to represent us. They just become baby sitters.
It is easy to point and blame. Take the time to help and you have become a union brother/sister. We all stand or fall together.
It is that simple.......

Tony, you are correct in what you just said. If someone out there needs to talk then they can always call Dan or myself at anytime. What ever is discussed stays between us and that is something that I can promise everyone. The only time that any discussion would go outside of what is told to me or Dan is if someone is talking about doing harm to themselves or to another person whether that person be a family memember or a co-worker. Now there is difference between someone just venting or someone putting a lot of emphasis in their emotion about wanting to die, or wanting to cause harm to another. I have had discussions like before in the past and through God's work were we able to get this person(s) to agree to go get help. There is nothing wrong in asking for help and as a matter of fact it takes a stronger person to put aside their pride and just say "I can't do it anymore".
If you know of anyone that wants help but is just some what scared to take that step. Offer by telling them that you will go with them to a meeting, or sit with them if they decide to call Dan or myself, or decide they want to go to a meeting. Either way, they opened up to so that means that they trust you enough to tell you what they may have told you and you could be the support that helped them take that first step.
The meetings down at the hall are held on Monday days and nights. Days 3pm-4:30 or longer if needed and Nights is set up for after shift and I will stay as long as I need to.
My contact number 502-718-6596 and if I can not be reached you have Mark Dowell at 429-2855. You can also call the union office and ask them to page Mark or myself and please express to them if it is an urgent matter so that they can put that in the text that they send out.

Tony, I've seen union brothers and sisters stand there and tell a supervisor and/or superintendent that somebody was dogging their job......That they could do the added work if they want to.
"They've got time to do that"
"They don't do nothing on that unit"
etc. etc. etc.
Because in 2012, its more important for managment to like you and be buddies, than to be a true union brother/sister.
I remember when we used to HELP people fighting work, no people throw them under the bus.

I agree withTony I would NEVER throw one of my fellow union dues payers to the wolves. And with that being said I also understand that each person in here has to do what he or she thinks is best for them and their family..Thats why if some suckass tells the supervisor I have time I just show them I dont!!!!I stand up for myself I dont care if Bill ford is watching .You cant be fired ...period.
