They have been discussing this since the downfall of the auto industry in 2008. No vote to do this has taken place. It would be difficult now that Michigan is a right to work state. Members could simply not pay union dues under the new state law. The UAW would have to have huge gains in the 2015 contract to make this acceptable. I, for one, do not see gains coming for the membership unless you are two-tier.

they will bring up two tier before we see anything...if they want to raise our dues...every dollar they get us on the hour raise nets them $24 per member in the coffers every year!

The rank and file won't get to vote on this, you can bank on that. If/when this vote happens it will be at the convention, voted on by the crotch sniffing delegates that are looking to climb the union ladder. And they will sell us out for their own personal gain in a second, then try and tell you how its a good thing.
The IUAW screwed the pooch, wasted HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of dues generated dollars, all the while receiving raises. And now, want you and I to give more. Fuck that.

So the rationale for the dues increase is declining membership Mr Settles says. Went from roughly 70k memebers to 40k members is his argument. My question is if memebership has declined by almost 50% maybe the UAWs real estate holdings should also. Does any local NEED 2 union halls? Nice to have sure but if budgetary issues are arising maybe one of them should be liquidated. Is Black Lake a neccesity? Our local spent $6000.00 golfing last month. Thats $72,000 a year...on golf...paid with OUR dues. Next time you see an online book at work, turn to the back page, go down the list...look at what OUR money is being used for. Again, if there is a budgetary issue maybe golfing at the due paying members expense should stop.

If our membership has reduced from 70k to 40k did the union leadership at the IUAW offices reduce by the same percentage? My guess is no...and they have voted themselves raises 4 times since the membership has gotten one. Wonder why we seem to be hurting for money?

labornotes.org/blogs/2013/12/uaw-dues-increase-biggest-mistake-two-tier The IUAW is raiding the Strike Fund at such a rapid clip that they are coming after the ones they are supposed to protect. Look at the stats on the strike fund in this story. The IUAW has already blown a 3rd of it. Here is your reason why. The 551 resolution agrees there is a problem: “…the International Strike Fund has fallen from a peak of $914.2 million at the end of 2005 to $635.2 million in June of 2013, a level not seen since 1984.”

If the membership has declined by 30k, that just means that the strike fund will only grow at 30% less. by raising our dues, it will not make up for the loss that was squandered by the IUAW and locals unions. With the contract coming to an end in 2015, they had better get their shit together!!! Misusing 279 million from the strike fund, to me, should be raising some red flags somewhere. Today UAW strike benefits are $175*(it maybe more?) a week plus medical-hospital and life insurance coverage.(http://www.uaw.org/page/dues) That is only 39 weeks or less, (assuming that $635.2 million / 40k = $6975 per member)
Is ted cruz our president???

Bottom line is this. The I.U.A.W. needs to tighten thei on expenditures. No more retiee benifit's for the I.U.A.W. officer's, et them live on he retiree benefit's they negotiated for the rest of us. Raising our dues (even if it is only a half hour more a month), s the wrong thing to do to a membership that is verydisatisfied with their preformance. I see the beginning of the ed of the U.A.W. if hey pass thi with out trying to raie more money by gettin the newhires up to pay scale with the rest of us and pay raise for the majority that has suffered long enough.
