WEEKLY UPDATE November 21, 2014
ORDER BANK:
2015 Escape: 27,890 26 days supply
2015 MKC: 4,020 21 days supply
PRODUCTION OVERTIME: As of this writing, this Sunday November 23 will be a
mandatory “Super Sunday” for A-crew. There are other Super Saturdays and
Super Sundays being discussed but additional dates have not yet been specified.
Remember that overtime dates are tentative until you have been notified by the
Company about that day’s actual production.
PLEASE WRITE PROPOSALS: We can’t stress it enough-- if there’s something you
want changed/added/deleted in our Master Agreement you need to please write a
proposal to address it. From two-tier to benefits changes to work rules, even if
you think somebody else is writing the same proposal…write your own proposal
and turn it in. One proposal form for each idea please. Proposals are the
starting point of negotiations. Your national negotiators hear literally
HUNDREDS of suggestions and complaints and opinions and praise during their
national travels and daily duties. Several months from now they will go
through all the submitted proposals to try and figure out what is the highest
and lowest priority according to the dictates of our 40,000+ members. As in
every negotiating timeline of our past, they ask membership everywhere to put in
writing the things that are most important to them. Imagine if there are 13
proposals written by members to address re-adding legal services, 500 proposals
written to address two-tier, 850 proposals written to address child care for
workers, 1,300 proposals written to get back a Christmas bonus, and 2,000
proposals written to implement a national perfect attendance program….what
would they believe the majority of the membership wants the priority order to be
if/when push comes to shove on items at negotiating time? TURN IN THOSE
PROPOSALS! Ask your Committeeperson for a form, stop in the Union Office at
F-18 in-plant, or pick one up at either Union Hall.
STATUS OF THE UNIFORM ALLOWANCE: We are getting the final signatures at the
corporate level on the 1.5 million dollar purchase order required to release the
funds for our clothing allowance. As soon as the funds are released the
program will be rolled out into the plant. Watch for details on how the
program works and final instructions as soon as signatures are in place, and
thanks for your patience as we navigate the complex approval process.
TURN UP THE HEAT: Yes, it has been cold in certain areas of the plant as the
temperature dipped below freezing a couple of days this week. And in the
spring it WILL be hot in certain areas of the plant as we get our first warm
days of the new year. We have a few natural gas heaters used near doorways and
entrances to try and keep the cold air out, but for the most part LAP is heated
by steam. It’s not like at home where you can go from A/C to heat and then
back to A/C with the flick of a switch; the process of bringing industrial
boilers online and purging the dormant steam lines throughout the entire
facility is a complex process that involves several Pipefitters over a couple of
days. For this reason it is done during Thanksgiving downtime each year.
Once the boilers are brought online the steam lines must then be drained,
checked, and any repairs completed. The boilers are not turned off until
spring, once we know cold temperatures are gone….which means it WILL get into
the 80’s inside the plant those first couple of warm days sprinkled in with
the freezing temps of March and April. The energy management team at LAP tries
to schedule the boilers being brought online and taken back offline with as few
cold/hot days as possibly, but they WILL happen each late fall and early
spring. Make sure to dress appropriately on those days where our temperature
will be “outside the norm”.
WEIGHT WATCHERS SIGN-UPS ANNOUNCED: This is the final chance to sign up for our
program which will start in January. Class time will be set to accommodate all
3 crews depending on the number of people that sign up from each crew. If you
are eligible the cost is $25 for a 12 week session and the rest is billed to
your ETAP. Final sign-ups will be held in the main cafeteria on breaks and
lunch on the following dates: C crew- 11/22, 11/23 and 11/24, A crew- 11/24,
11/25 and 11/26, and B Crew- 11/21, 11/25 and 11/26. You can also contact Kevin
Bush at 364-3659 or Jeff Hale @ 364-3687 for further details and to sign up. If
you leave a message, please give us the last four of your social, your global ID
number, your phone number, and what Crew you work on.
PEDESTRIANS DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY INSIDE THE PLANT: Apparently there is
still some confusion on right-of-way concerning pedestrians and PMHV’s when
inside the plant. IT IS THE PEDESTRIAN’S RESPONSIBILITY to look for oncoming
PMHV traffic before crossing. If a vehicle is nearby, IT IS THE PEDESTRIAN’S
RESPONSIBILITY to make sure the driver knows they are in the vicinity and that
they intend to cross. In some cases the driver may be distracted and not see you
right away and continue to drive down the aisle past you. THE DRIVER HAS THE
RIGHT OF WAY and you must wait for the vehicle to pass. The Company is
reinforcing that PEDESTRIANS DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY in shared aisles with
material handling equipment.
KENTUCKY COMMISSION ON WOMEN STATEWIDE USED MOBILE-PHONE DRIVE: Due to
tremendous response, the Kentucky Commission on Women (KCW) and Verizon Wireless
has extended the KCW Statewide HopeLine through Nov. 30, to ensure everyone has
a chance to participate. Verizon Wireless will turn all of the donated devices
from this drive into a cash grant for Work Safe, which provides domestic
violence prevention training for Kentucky businesses. Please drop off your old
phones or attachments in collection boxes located at each UAW union hall or in
the training center at Louisville Assembly Plant. Call Vera Newton at
502-364-3973 if you have any questions.
COAT AND CLOTHING DRIVES FOR VETERANS AND THE LESS FORTUNATE: Both LAP and KTP
are holding their 2014 Winter Coat Drive from November 1st to November 30th.
Collection bins are located inside selected entrances at both plants, and at the
union halls on Fern Valley Rd and Chamberlain Lane. At this time we will only be
collecting clothing items including and especially coats, jackets, hats and
gloves. Extra-large and children sizes are needed if possible, but whatever
you give will be greatly appreciated. Interlake Services and the Wayside
Christian Mission will distribute your donated items this year, Interlake
Services to homeless veterans and Wayside Christian Mission to other less
fortunate people here locally. This is an opportunity to clean out your
closets and donate these items to help others to stay warm this winter, and you
have no idea the impact this will make on other people’s lives. Please
remember - “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure”...
