As I draw near retirement age I realize that I don't know much about our retirement benefits. Per this article retirees do not have vision or dental insurance. Is this true?

No it isn't. My dad has been retired for 6 years and has both. Regular Dr copays $25.00 specialist $35. Has vision & dental. Deductibles much higher than ours though

Thanks. The above article is after all posted on a socialist website so their real objective is not to inform us.

You are correct, it is a socialist site. But that doesnt diminish the fact that Settles and the iuaw have a complete disconnect from the rank and file members and are completely out of touch with the morale of those on the floor.
Instead of name calling and pointing blame the uaw has an opportunity to prove to members and plants they want to organize why they can be a valuable asset to the workers. Its a dirty word among those in power, but its time for the uaw to compete, for the chance to represent workers. Prove to the skeptical that you bring something to the table.
Facts are facts. People are fed up with no raises, loss of benefits, break, cola, holidays etc. Show us something. Theyre never going to organize transplants if they can't prove they can improve their situation. The big 3 workers have done nothing but go in reverse the last decade, how is that attractive to non union plants? The uaw's status among workers is so bad they couldn't even organize vw and the co. wanted them in the building!!!!!
Settles needs to shut his mouth. He hasnt sacrificed a god damn thing in 10 yrs. He got his raises. He'll get his double dip pension.

Very wwll said. Tryintomakeit that paragraph needs to make it up to those big dogs that are in charge. They need to know how THIS contract is going to drive more to quit paying dues if we don't get a great contract. UAW may go down with this contract.

Right to work will eventually get to every state and here's why: the business men and women of even the most conservative states see that the states all around them are going RTW. They get worried of unfair advantage for those states so they pressure their representatives to pass it . The congress people know who line their pockets so they have to go along with it. Meanwhile the UAW have been giving away pay and benifits for 15 years.

But until they can shake a southern workers hand and ask for their vote. They need to show they have something to offer and at this point I don't think that they can do that. Again AWESOME post!!!
