Hi,
I signed up for an electrical posting starting in July. Surprisingly I was accepted. I am presently at Romeo Engine and am due for an ilo this week. In June, 20 or 30 more go ilo. Figgered I would jump to something stable.
I've heard good things and am excited for the opportunity.
Any help on the local area would be appreciated. Neighborhoods or areas-Ky vs IN, etc.
Thanks

well first thing welcome. then things to think about do not jack rabbit a green light here in KY a yellow light just means go faster. look both ways when taking off from a green it will keep you safe and 2 car lengths behind someone else on roads is tailgating. and of course wave at everyone in your neighborhood lots of nice places here to live close or about 30 Min's drive out. oldham county north of Louisville has about the best public schools and taxes Indiana is also a very nice option

I moved to this area in 2001. I live in Oldham county great area. 32-40 minute drive depending on traffic. Just to add to this thread: 8: be prepared to have people pull out in front of you they will... 9: this is a right to carry firearms state 10: Rain is like snow around here these people cannot drive... 11: when it does snow everything is shut down (except FORD) 12: be prepared for hot summers and reasonable winters 13: YOU WILL LIKE LIVING HERE it is a great place to raise a family

Everywhere in Louisville is nice and the surrounding Counties are all nice. Set up some parameters like wanting to live no more than an hour from the plant( keep in mind there are Two plants in Louisville). have a set amount you want to spend on a New home. There are a lot of great Apartments for rent in the area for a stop gap measure until you find a home. If I where you I would spend some time and come scout out the area before coming down in June. if your interested some of us I'm sure would be happy to meet with you for a couple of hours one weekend and show you around the town.
Welcome to Louisville

14. All soft drinks now will be refered to as "cokes", doesnt matter if they serve pepsi, big red or whatever tell them you want a coke 15. There are only 2 college basketball teams that matter. 16.Strike #15 as REALLY their is only 1 team....actually two teams matter but you have to hate 1 out of two. 17.When telling friends back home about your new plant pronouce it Lou-a-ville not Louis-ville. 18. Install a bigger motor in your car as most of our on-ramps were designed in the 50's and are a quarter of a mile long so you need a vehicle with top fuel like acceleration. Welcome you've made a good choice.

I wouldn't say everywhere in Louisville is nice. The west end tends to have most of the murders and violent crime. The south end tends to have the child molesters and meth dealers. I recently just saw a chart of crime in Jefferson Co. Middletown and St. Matthews area would be ideal for me. I'd go to realtor.com and look and houses in your price range and then look at google earth the get a satellite view of homes around it. Pesonally, I'd recommend private schools for children if you chose to live Jefferson Co. Louisville has a "bussing program" where they bus kids from the ghetto to nice areas of Louisville. It's a mess!! If you choose to live in Indiana, you might soon face paying a toll for the new bridges.
