Recently, UAW 862 President Rocky Comito discussed the work search requirements of the Unemployment Insurance Law in relation to the Temporary Layoff during the retooling period at the Louisville Assembly Plant with the U I Director, Allen Larson. Rocky requested a waiver for the members laid off since all would be returning after the retooling. Unfortunately, due to the length of our TLO and State requirements on seeking employment our request was denied.
Below is a copy of the letter.

From: Larson, Allen Sent: Monday, November 29, 2010 12:27 PM To: Comito, Rocky (R.B.) Subject: Request for waiver of work search
Mr. Comito,
This is to confirm our conversation this morning regarding your request for a waiver of the work search requirements for those workers who are being laid off from the Fern Valley plant. Unfortunately we will not be able to comply with your request due to the length of time involved.

It's not that bad that once a week you have to call a business and ask if they are hiring. Just be sure you get a contact name and keep the name of the business and phone number. You do have to report to the unemployment of office ever 12 weeks. Unfortunately, it is a long wait in the Louisville area office. I go down to the Etown office myself. I have family I visit after. The wait is usually less than hour, but don't go on Monday!! I usually go around 3pm. 10-2pm are heavy times due to their lunch hours. Enjoy your time-off, while getting "free money". Spend more time with your family. You can catch up on work around the house. I'd get a subscription to Blockbuster or Netflix. Travel, that's very important!! I'd take a trip out west!! Oh, most importantly, don't set that alarm clock!!! You'll want to stay up late watch the "after hours" movies on Cinemax. Enjoy sleeping in until 12pm.
