Bad news. Just heard we lost a skilled tradesman at the plant in the Final area doing construction. Possibly a millwright. Pray for his family and co-workers that were with him. There is never a good time for a death and over the Holidays in makes it that much harder to cope with.

I've known and worked with Ron for almost 17 years. He was a great person and a great worker. He was known as "Captain Ron" by all his friends at the lake and on the river. My heart is heavy, rest in peace my friend.

Ron Cassidy did not die in the plant, He died at ~ 9:30 am at the hospital. He had talked to his girlfriend of eight years at 8:30 on his break. The accident also happened after a mandatory safety meeting this morning. (Supervisors in areas of the plant were reported to have breezed through this meeting, and told employees to sign off on completion of the meeting even though all of the material was not covered. Ron's area may not have even had the meeting at all.) They had just went back to the job when the accident happened. There were 3 millwrights on the job, Two on the ground one in the air, Ron was one of the two on the ground. There was a fork truck being used to brace the work, however the operator had exited the fork truck. (No one as of yet knows who the operator was.) The work was not tied off, and after the supports for the I-beam had been cut it swung down and the corner of the I-beam caught his face and throat and severed a main artery in his chest and neck. There is a meeting tomorrow morning regarding the accident.

Sad, sad, sad...we can never be safe enough. Accidents happen, but from what I can tell at KTP there is no such thing as an accident.

But Scott is right, they'll probably try to put an R&W in his file to get out of paying out his insurance benefit. It seems too often that we lose someone when we have down time. Usually outside of work, but nonetheless. I remember a very good friend of mine (Alan Kidd, LAP Trim) was killed a few years back in an ATV accident. It just blindsided me. Be careful everyone.

It seems in the heat of it all that some information we were given was not exactly correct. Ron was dead by the time he was taken to the hospital, The EMTs turned down life flight as his condition was already beyond what could be helped. He was supposedly pronounced dead at ~9:30, sorry for any confusion.
