Chairperson's Update 01/23/2011
While the year ended with a boom, the product announcement, Alan Mulally’s
visit, and of course the last Louisville Explorer, last year showed progress in
many of our goals.
In 2010, we did see fewer layoff weeks, we had three (3), plus a little overtime
toward the end of the year, (10 Fridays). We, also, started getting ROBO calls
for job opportunities around the country even while we plan on increasing our
workforce by 1800. Over 150 members that were on ILO, accepted the
opportunities to go to either Chicago Assembly or Chicago Stamping to wait for
the return home to basic unit (RTBU) later this year. In addition, a few took
a temporary assignment at the Romeo Engine Plant and Sheldon Road Plant. This
lowered the number of members on ILO to under 100.
Due to the launch agreement reached in December, most of our members, both
active and TLO’s, will also be getting a raise. The rates were recently
approved and are being entered in LAP’s system. The language for
reduction-in-force was updated and commonized among all classifications in this
agreement, as well as the return to surveys for material handling dock jobs and
repair in Pre-delivery by seniority, which was removed from the 2007 contract.
In 2010, we also, bid over 700 jobs in preparation for the product launch with
many job bids remaining for the member who returns home.
Grievance: Also, during 2010, over 120 grievances were heard and settled.
Since taking office in June of 2008, with almost 300 grievances in the
procedure, 536 grievances have been heard at LAP. At the end of the year, only
13 grievances remain unheard in the procedure.
Placement Surveys: A RTBU (Return to Basic Unit) Survey for Skilled Trades at
KTP was completed last week. Five electricians, 1 Pipefitters, 1 toolmaker
have sign up to return. We are now waiting for the Transfer of Operation posting
at KCAP for Skilled and Production workers. The KTP, Chicago Assembly Plant,
and Chicago Stamping Plant's RTBU posting will follow soon after. Return Homes
maybe transfer near Sept/Oct as long as the Escape program is not delayed.
Colored Vest: As you look around the plant you will notice we have went to
different body colored vests that people wear. All UAW/Ford employees should be
wearing yellow/green vest with striping. All vendors and Non-Ford personnel
should be wearing orange only.
UAW Policy Grievance: Grievance # PG030210, The Plants Equity of Sacrifice
Grievance is at the umpire stage. The UAW is demanding that the Company
immediately reinstate compensations and benefits from the modifications of the
2007 National Agreement comparable to what was restored to the Non-UAW
represented employees (Salary Ford Employees). As of 1/23/11, the grievance
has not been heard and is scheduled for February.
Jim Tetreault, Vice President, North America Manufacturing along with Jeff Wood,
Director of Manufacturing, announced that John Savona, President, CEO &
Plant Manager, Auto Alliance International is appointed Plant Manager,
Louisville Assembly Plant replacing Ken Minielly. John, along with Jeff Wood,
was in the plant on Thursday and Friday of last week and relocate to
Louisville shortly.
