Hello, I would like to bring your attention on a new post published on the
UAWLAP.org Site.
Details of the post follow.
In Solidarity,
Steven M. Stone
Chairperson Update 2/20/11
Profit Sharing will be paid out on March 9, 2011. Your 2010 Profit Sharing
payment distribution options must be made February 14 - 22, 2011. Log on
to the www.myfordbenefits.com Web site to make your election.
Also, for the members on TLO, you do not have to Claim your Profit Sharing
bonus. In Kentucky under KRS 341.390 (1), Unemployment Insurance requires the
claimant to claim wages as they are earned: NOT when they are received.
Bonuses are not deductible unless it can be demonstrated that the bonus was
earned during a week of unemployment claimed.
The National Ford Council and the Sub Council are being held in Kansas City next
week. Herb Hibbs will be covering me while I am at the meetings. I am
returning to work on Saturday, February 26, 2011. Jamie Burke (Sub Council
#3) and Barry Ford (Sub Council #2) are attending the SubCouncil meeting on
Tuesday and Wednesday and will be returning on Friday.
Chicago Assembly Plant trip: On February 12 and 13th, I traveled to Chicago
Assembly along with Herb Hibbs, to view equipment and procedures which will be
similar in the Louisville Assembly Plant when we start-up. During the stay we
met with some of the 150 LAP transfers working in Chicago. This was the
highlight of the trip. Not only did the members get first hand information
about LAP's retooling and start-up schedules, they were grateful that we took
the time to visit with them, but what they didn’t realize is how the visit
genuinely touched me, also. Many commented on having the opportunity to stay
informed with the emails and texts from uawlap.org and how grateful they were
for the LAP updates and not just rumors.
When I took office in June of 2008, the company had already announced that the
night shift layoff with the loss of up to 700 jobs. Plus, with the then 16
month retooling period, I knew right then that the union communication systems
had to improve. While checking out the different communication options, an
assembler on the motor line, Scott Govoni, came to the union hall and said he
could help. By October 2008, the uawlap.org site posted its first
informational post. Since then, weekly updates, emailing, picture galleries and
SMS texting were added in order to better inform all of our members, whether
active, retired, laid off, or transfer. While I am looking for more
enhancements, the website has received compliments from around the country on
its usefulness, although until recently, I never realized its true value.
UAW/Ford Partners in Quality: In recognition of the significant contribution
made to quality by UAW/Ford employees, the UAW/Ford Partners in Quality Jacket
Award Program will be distributing a jacket for all UAW/Ford hourly employees on
active roll status, which includes all T.L.O. employees at the Louisville
Assembly Plant. In addition, it has also been agreed upon that LAP employees
on I.L.O. will, also, receive a jacket. It is anticipated that the first jackets
will ship late March. Final delivery should be in early May.
