I just wanted to share this because we have had a lot of people discuss this issue with us and we just want the people to know what they have in plan to stay on top of the ice machines working. Please let your teams know if anyone has mentioned this issue to you all. Thank you,

Subject: Ice Machines
A PM is being put in the system for all ice machines to be checked weekly. This PM will be in place on 4/14/2011. There are 22 ice machines. 5 will be checked and verified as working daily. If not in working condition, the ice machines will be repaired at that time. All Ice Machine PMs and Repairs will be completed by the Central #1 shift Pipefitters. These pipefitters will report to the #1 shift Maintenance Supervisor in the Paint Department. Any Parts that are required for repairs will be ordered by the Central Supervisor on dayshift.
The Central PF on days are working on the UAW AC unit and the B air drier for the compressor building.
Currently repairs are required for the ice machines located at C-18, G-1, P11, and F1.
The #3 and #1 shift PF in Central will be working on these repairs until they are completed.
Please send me a note if you know of any other ice machines that are in disrepair.
Keith Greene Superintendent Paint/Central

I have a better idea. How about actually cleaning and fixing the fans. Summer is on the way and it gets hot.

How about doing something about the ones that empty the ice machines to fill their coolers to sell pops and make money. SWhy not require them to use their own ice and let the people that need it for their cups have some!

Keith Greene Superintendent Paint/Central It's great that you post this stuff.....But Ford has a history of deleting PM's which is why the Propane fill equipment was ready to explode before it got repaired (show me last PM) The hoist in Final in terrible shape, Fans, water fountains, AC etc... When were the filters changed on ice machines, and water fountains last...how about legionnaire test on the machines when was it done last....I'll bet it's been a while..... this may be the reason why...... • There were 278 serious injuries in the Ford Motor Company system last year, of those 142 had the potential to be fatal. All were a result of not following the approved safety procedure. Of the 278 injuries last year 66% were due to slip, trip and falls. In the last 12 years there have been 19 fatalities in the Ford Motor Company system with 68% of those skilled trades. General Motors has had no fatalities since 2005. You think this a coincidence ... NOT AT ALL... Thanks...but I really get fed up, since 1995 I have personally witnessed 2 people almost killed and 1 that did die, may he rest in peace, The stories I can tell.... I've had to go to the international 3 times to get changes, that are common place in other industries.... Ford's biggest fear is the reports that have to be done when an accident occurs....because the reason is predetermined OPERATOR ERROR...sorry rant over

Ice Machines and water fountains are not suppose to have filters on them as about 2 years ago or so they determined that a filter not changed atleast every 6 months contains more harmful bacteria then the natural line....as a result of the PM's being canceled from management...then filters were removed. Most work done by Skilled Trades isn't being done because Upper Management eliminates PM's to save overtime.....bottom line.

Very comforting... canceled PM's?? What role does our health and safety reps play in all of this?? I mean hoists not up to standard, due to canceled PM's, water line filters, canceled PM's, Propane tanks ready to explode canceled PM's...At some point the UAW, and the Health & Safety reps (because of the due's they collect) need to step up and earn their positions. I mean NOT just sit back and react to situations as they occur, but be proactive and ensure basic principals are being done...What are the inspection intervals, for hoists, propane pumps, fans, water fountains, etc at other plants, and what role does UAW reps play in keeping them up to date.... .....basic safety principals?? ...AND DUES!!!

What we need to do is bring back CIWG, FTPM, and Team Meetings. Things got done when we had these things in place. I know this because I was a CIWG Moderatorfor two years. But the Company dropped it to save money.

Our Health & Safety reps are a joke. They have been called many times on chassis and it's always the same answer, Nothing we can do.

If you see a filter system on a water line more then likely the filter has been removed and it's just a empty canister...but it wouldn't be a bad idea to have it checked out. Give me your column location of the fountain and I will check it out.

Does anybody know who controls the tv channels in plant? ESPN would be a nice addition. Unless it's changed get with Kevin Thomas on Dayshift...he's an electrician. He can get the channel changed. Probably in Central but not sure.

I don't want to hi-jack the thread but, regarding the plant TVs. This is a huge out of date system that has been kept operating over the years by a select few electricians in the plant. Management decided that this job could be eliminated, and the man power delegated elsewhere. Often needs arise to address channel issues and/or system problems. During these times the electrician is expected to respond while attending to other normal responsibilities, and management makes it very difficult for this to happen. This is just another example of the never ending fight with management concerning jobs.

To All: We do have the ice machines on a weekly PM now and Keith Greene for Central is the contact person for this. They are doing PM's weekly on all ice machines. If one breaks have the supervisor or the team leader send a note out to K. Greene and also copy anyboyd else they want on the email. This is a daily issue that we do discuss in our line time meetings. If you want, call 2392 and leave a message on my voice mail which pole location that it is at. We will send notes out letting them know what is going on.
Kevin Thomas is the person that deals with the TV's in the plant. Kevin works day shift.

It's the closest one for a LOT of us. Checked out the water fountain at C-32 last night and its all fine...the base is secure now and the black box beside the fountain is a little giant pump that has 2 drainlines (fountain and overflow for the roof drain) to drain out is correct and no filters are on the line so it's good. I never recommend drinking the water in the plant but if you choose to that water is ok to use.

The fountain at AA36 in Body is not cooling. The water is lukewarm. Noticed it yesterday. Thats a easy one...if the fountain is plugged in and the outlet is working...simple call central Maint. and tell them you need a replacement fountain and then have your team leader or supervisor write up a work order and it will get fixed. We have no ability to fix independent units but can replace them with new. Hope that helps.

The ice machine at B28?,underneath the supervisor's hole, keeps backing up with water. It's in the small break area by the wind noise test building.

The ice machine at B28?,underneath the supervisor's hole, keeps backing up with water. It's in the small break area by the wind noise test building. Its either clogged or the little giant pump is not working...call paint maint. and speak to Joe Smith on Dayshift and ask him to send the plumbing crew out to your location and they will fix it. Those guys work 7-3pm.
