They can go to 6th and Cedar unemployment office and apply. They do not need to be refered to apply.

A quick question... if our referral is given to someone, do they also need to go downtown and apply as well?

I tell people do that because in my opinion, it just doubles their chance to get hired. It doesn't in no way guarantee that they are going to hired but why not have your name in two pots.

I'm just wondering, though. Does FORD now have the right to keep people temps for a long period like the Toyota and Honda?

They have the right to use them as 1 year temps. Not unlike they used 89 day people in the past.

So, in theory, they can hire temps keep them until lets say summer vacation shut-down and then bring them back as temps or hire a new bunch, right??

You can find the language in Vol. 4 pg 105-108. They don't call them Temps because of the 89 day rule so they call them supplemental workers so that they can work them as long as needed. We have other plants that do this and this is something that they got from Toyota because they have been doing this for a very long time.
