UAW Local 862 – KTP
Chairperson Report
06/14/2011
Good Afternoon/Evening Everyone,
Order Bank
Super Duty – 41,714
Expedition – 11,117
Navigator – 1,630
Total – 54,461
Current Production Schedule – The plant is currently running approximately
1399 units per day off of the Chassis Lines, this equates to approximately a 9.5
hour schedule per shift in the Final Area. The plant is tentatively scheduled to
maintain this level of production throughout the month of June.
Long Term Supplemental Employees – The Company plans to begin testing
individuals for these positions in the near future with physicals being tentatively
scheduled to occur during the plant vacation shutdown period.
Stamping Production Schedule Change – On June 20th the Stamping Plant
production areas are tentatively scheduled to go to (2) two traditional 5 day shifts
(M-F) – the # 2 Shift scheduled start time is 6:00am, and the # 3 Shift scheduled
start time is 4:30pm.
# 3 Shift – Final Area - Shift Start Time Survey – Recently the # 3 Shift - Final
Area employees were surveyed for shift start time preferences. The results of the
recent survey reflect that affected employees are pretty much split on the decision
with the later start time results combined exceeding the earlier start time results
combined by a very slight margin.
4th of July Holiday Conversion during Shutdown – For those employees who
are receiving a full 40 hours of vacation pay for first week of shutdown, the 4th of
July Holiday will be automatically converted and banked as 8 hours of personal
leave for future use. Those employees that choose to receive holiday pay instead of
the personal leave conversion need to make this request in Labor Relations before
shutdown. Employees who are working on July 4th can also covert their 8 hour
holiday into personal leave and bank it for future use through the HPS system.
I would also like to wish everyone and their families a safe and enjoyable
Vacation Shutdown, and at this time I will take any questions
President’s Report
Brothers and Sisters,
I want to first congratulate all of the newly elected officers and committeepersons
of Local 862. I would also like to thank the members who took the time to vote in
our Local elections. As we move forward together as a team, it is my goal to
support each and every member and our leadership to the best of my ability. I ask
for the membership’s support of my office and the entire leadership of this local.
Continue to communicate your issues and concerns so that the membership and its
voice is heard. I want all of our members to know that I will always have an opendoor
policy during my service to the membership.
Now is not the time to reflect on our past, but to move forward as a union
supporting our current members; both active and retired. I also ask everyone to dig
deep and be proactive in our political agenda and growing our union to bring us
power in numbers to our International union. I will be asking our members to get
involved heavily as I take the responsibility that you have entrusted in me to move
forward with the issues that will affect and change us in our future. When you
have questions, be sure to attend the monthly meetings where they can be
addressed. With this being said, it is time to notify the membership of the
upcoming standing committee sign up in August. Current members and new
members that want to be involved must sign up at the August membership
meeting.
The July membership meeting has been cancelled due to vacation shutdown.
I want to wish everyone a safe and happy 4th of July holiday and vacation
shutdown. Take this time to relax with your families as you have worked hard and
deserve it. Please remind your co-workers, especially the skilled trades that will be
working hard during the shutdown period, to keep safety paramount at all times
while they are making improvements to the plant.
The UAW storage facility at the Fern Valley Road union hall is almost at
full capacity. We have opened up one more rental bay due to the demand of rental
spaces. Thank you for the support on the vision of this facility and also its success.
Currently we have a Community Service Committee that is the strongest that
I have ever seen in the UAW! Our co-chairpersons do an outstanding job in
bringing not only our committee members, but a cross section of members together
in being a part in many local charities and the involvement in their success. Some
of these include March for Dimes, Ronald McDonald House, JDRF, Women’s
Center, as well as Make-A-Wish which recently brought in over $4,100.00 in one
day at the Walk held at Papa Johns stadium. Our regional Director, Mo Davison,
and his leadership team, along with our Community Service committee, E-Board
and current members, walked to raise money for this event. We also have
Louisville Slugger bats customized to support the 2011 UAW/Make-A-Wish
“walk for wishes” available at the KTP/LAP union halls. All of the proceeds
will be donated to the Make-A-Wish program through the efforts of Region 3
campaign.
Please continue to keep safety on your mind at all times when you are at
work or at home. Work safe and keep building quality vehicles for our customers.
Plan to attend the monthly union meetings along with the CAP meetings.
Remember to update your information and phone numbers with the local union to
insure that you are informed when needed. I can be reached at either the
Chamberlain Lane Union Hall (241-9491) or at the Fern Valley Road Union Hall
(969-9136).
