I would like to thank Scott for setting up this UAW skilled trades forum. My name is Rick DeBord and I sent Scott a PM and requested that he set up a forum for UAW trades to discuss issues unique to the trades. There will most likely be a lot of changes in the trades with the mechanical work teams possibly being implemented. I hope that a lot of people take advantage of this forum to talk about any trades related issues that they want to discuss. I am a Millwright currently working at TCAP. We are scheduled to close Dec 19th and I will be transfering to LAP to work in production (hopefully temporarily). With Ford saying they will be cutting the trades from 9,000 people to 8,000 I may be in production permanently. Anybody want to discuss any trades issues?

I'm originally from lorain assembly Thanks for wishing me good luck. I hope enough trades people use this forum to make it worthwhile. I think it will be good to talk about problems as things change. If people from different plants talk about issues that come up we may be able to all help each other. At the very least we will be better informed about the differences in how the trades operate from plant to plant.

We have 9 tradesmen signed up to transfer to LAP for production work. 3 MW, 3 TM, 2PF and 1 welder. It is possible that a couple of the people that are signed up could take buyouts and not transfer. Do you know how many are transfering from Sandusky? Best of luck with your move also.

Excellent idea on the trades forum. I think this avenue of information sharing will travel faster than the union channels and likely more accurate.

Well it is looking like it may be slim pickings for the MW's. So far 3 from TCAP. 16 from indiana. 2 form Michigan that i know of. God now how many others from Michigan. Looks like some of us may be working production for awhile. With new posting going up there may be more added.
Is there any MW's taking buyouts at LAP or KTP?

I can imagine the people on ILO are ready to get back to work. At TCAP we do not have any trades on ILO. I hope all of us eventually get back into maintenance.

I agree, it does look like slim pickings. I think our only hope is if they offer some of us re-skilling opportunities. I do not have a lot of faith that this will happen. There was re-skilling language in the last contract and from what I hear there were only a few people retrained. Our IUAW would have to go to bat for us and I guess I have lost faith that they will do anything to protect the trades.

Don't feel bad I am the Ind.Truck Repair coming and sounds like we are all in same boat pretty much as far as returning to our trades.Be nice if some people would consider taking the $100000 to retire and give someone else a chance to go back to their tools but that is about as lickeley as us going back to our trades or being reskilled.Since most of have only one choice to go anywhere and stay Ford and that was sign out of zone as production and hope. Makes you really wonder about taking the $50000 to return to production ,sure that didn't just show up in the contract at exactly this time for no reason. What really sucks is some of spent years to get on apprenticeship went back to school got our journeman card only to be thrown back to production if we wanted to stay Ford and not get laid off.

I guess we all need to try to stay as positive as we can and make the best of whatever comes our way. If we knew then, what we know now, we would all have selected electrician for our apprenticeship.

Buyouts is like a game of liars poker, you never really know until the deadline. I've heard like seven millwright names mentioned at KTP but haven't spoke to any of the people. With that said, there is no guarantee they will replace any that retire especially when you factor in the pool workers. But I will say if we have all these trades going to production, then Ford should never need any contractors working in any ford location as there should be an available pool of trades to pull from in production....Regardless if it's only for temporary basis like shut down or project work

"Buyouts is like a game of liars poker, you never really know until the deadline."
That is the best I have heard it described.

I agree. I submitted several contract resolutions about replacing trades that retire and about having NO contractors working in any ford facility while we have trades on ILO or working production. Also for keeping our pay while working production to motivate ford to use us for trades work. The IUAW did absolutely nothing to help the trades in this contract.
