Since this is for rumors and we can't get a straight answer from those who are suppose to have the answers, is KTP Going to lose more electricians to LAP.

The big question is the buy out, management has to wait and see how many electricians they lose to the latest offer. My date to move from KTP to LAP Is in limbo because of this issue. The answer to this question lies with our fellow employees.

Good luck getting people to retire I mean they only get 68,000 after taxes when people have been retired since the 80's for nothing .Someone will hand you that much money for doing what you should do to let a younger person get a chance to do what you have been doing for 30 + years. Then complain because your kid can't get hired ,if no one leaves no one can come in .Union members fought tooth and nail for a pension years ago and 30 and out but you can't get people to use it I can't afford to retire ,then you will die here because it doesn't get any better than 68,000 dollars on top of what you should have saved already .My Dad retired in 1986 he has enjoyed everyday he was 58 when he retired he is 76 now and he didn't have the nest egg some should have because he was just a production worker not making Skilled Trades wages and overtime. It kills me when I hear I can't afford to retire .I have scrimped and saved especially the last 10 years when I became a Skilled Trade. Now I not only have to move to another state but go back to production because someone won't take 68,000 dollars handed to you on top of what you should have in the bank excuse me if I sound bitter but I am .

You're way off base here usmcm38a1. KTP management is afraid electricians are going to retire, there aren't enough here now, and they don't want to lose anymore to LAP. Corporate asked for 2 electrician volunteers from KTP, based on seniority, to transfer to LAP, evidently more electricians are needed there. This scheduled transfer is being held up because of the buy out issue.

Like I said good luck worrying about too many retiring youre lucky to get anyone to retire today.I am in one of the smallest trades ITR Mech.and there isn't one retiring that I know of. I can see managements point but I would love to see some people retire there are still people that past the apprentice test 12 years ago who are still not apprentices.Like I said if I sound bitter I am.Try being in a plant finally making it into the trades only to find out you plant is selling and you have to sell your house you spent 17 years saving to build the way you wanted it only to have to up and sell it for a small amount of what you have in it.Then get to your new plant and go back to production hoping for someone to retire so they will put you back and nobody will retire. At least you are still in a trade that is in demand and get to stay in it regardless of what plant.

I am in the same situation that you are in. The plant I work in is closing (TCAP) and I am transferring to LAP to work in production. Although I would like to be able to work in my trade at LAP I do not think people should have to retire with 30 years. I am upset that the IUAW did not get Skilled pay for trades working in production like GM and Chrysler have already had. I think everyones life is different and some people can not afford to retire because of Divorces, losing there ass in the stock market, helping family members, health issues that drained there savings, etc. Sadly there are also people who have no life outside of ford and will never retire. If I get back in the trades before I get my 30 years in that will be great, but if not I will make the best out of working production.

Its not that they should have to retire it is that it has become more the norm not to retire and we would have gotten the money if we were truly forced to production but in there twisted way of thinking we weren't.I just hate to hear the same people that won't retire complain about hiring. It is supposed to be cycle but it doesn't work that way anymore .I both lost and made money i'm not a wizard but I knew not to put all my eggs in one basket and that getting 3 to 5 % in intrest income beat losing your shirt. It's not that its a few people it is still that anymore it is the norm to work till you die or get to be number 1 on the big board woo hoooo .I too willl make the best of it I have for the first 17 I will for the last 13.Ford and the Uaw need to get together look at the numbers in trades and instead of worrying about saving some electricians or what ever put the bids up and let people move but Ford always waits till they have to pay out soo much in overtime before bidding it.The apprenticeship was a great program for making journeman that knew the jobs in the plants but it fell by the wayside for reasons which I don't care to bring up . I wish all who are in the trades still good luck.Hope you get to go where you want .

Last I saw LAP has about 120-125 electricians about the same as they had before they went to one shift building explorers. Does not count the 19 apprentices they added on.

More and more people work until they die or until their health gets bad enough they have no choice. I think uncle sam likes it if you continue to pay taxes until you die and delay collecting social security checks. Hopefully the economy will recover enough so more people will be able to afford to retire. Even if it does there will be some people who will want to work until they tip over. It is their choice to make.

I took a gamble and put in transfer from skilled trades(not electrical) to production in the hopes that I could bid on electrical one day. I do have my journeymans card in electrical and I spent 13yrs working with the robots welding units. Just praying my experence helps. Life is a gamble so here I go to see what the future brings.

Back to the original Topic.... Familyguy, I've heard there is a possibility, but it depends on how many of the existing electricians take the buy- out option once it becomes available.
