From the Indiana AFL-CIO
Brothers & Sisters,
Surprise, surprise! Today Governor Mitch Daniels announced his support for the
“right to work for less” legislation in Indiana. Although was not entirely
unexpected, we had hoped Governor Daniels would come to his senses and see this
legislation for exactly what it is: a direct attack on Indiana’s middle class
and an affront to all those who seek a better economy in the state.
Even with the Governor’s support, this bill has a long way to go before it
becomes law and we intend to fight it every step of the way. The Labor movement
in Indiana will be united like never before and, together with our community
allies, we will fight and we will win. When working people stand together
against an attack like this, they win. Every. Single. Time.
In the coming weeks, I implore all working people in Indiana to stand up and let
their voice be heard. We'll be at the statehouse everyday beginning Wednesday,
January 4th, so join us there. Take a moment right now and click here to write
your state legislators an email expressing your opposition:

And, join us at as we continue to make direct appeals to legislators, hold
community events across the state and outreach to citizens and the media alike
to express our grave concerns with this misguided bill and all the harm it will
do to middle class Hoosiers.

I look forward to fighting this battle, standing shoulder-to-shoulder, with
working Hoosiers all across the state. The Labor Movement was borne out of
struggle. Adversity has always made us stronger. And that is exactly what will
happen over the next several weeks. While some will predict this fight to be
the potential demise of the Labor Movement in Indiana, I know that this will be
our finest hour.
In solidarity,
