Article Emailed to me.... Obama's new 5-Year Plan Energy Plan appears to not only depnd on solar power but also on using algae as a new form of energy.- communities.washingtontimes.com/neighborhood/middle-class-guy/2012/feb/24/obamas-algae-energy-plan/I was pleased to hear Charles Krauthammer mock this idea yesterday on Special Report:- www.nationalreview.com/corner/291944/krauthammers-take-nro-staff… I was impressed by the president’s analysis of this situation where we have no control over the global price of oil. We’re depending on oil from unfriendlies. And he says… drilling for oil to relieve our dependency is not a solution or a plan. He said we have to go to clean energy. He talked about something really revolutionary today: algae. A $14 million grant for the development of algae. So it’s not oil. His solution is algae. And because we know the secretary of energy is a physicist who won the Nobel Prize, the president, knowing all this stuff, said one reason we should do this is because “we can grow algae here in the United States.” It happens that algae will grow anywhere on earth! Hey, it's even good to eat, being called "Nature's Perfect Food"! - www.immunesupport.com/news/94wtr001.htmThis reminded me of Kim Jong Il's "Pine Needle Tea": - www.cato.org/research/articles/wilkinson-050201.htmlIn the spring of 1845, Karl Marx wrote, ". . . the human essence is no abstraction inherent in each single individual. In its reality it is the ensemble of social relations." Marx's idea was that a change in the "ensemble of social relations" can change "the human essence." In June 2004 the communist North Korean government issued a statement to its starving citizens recommending the consumption of pine needles. Pyongyang maintained that pine needle tea could effectively prevent and treat cancer, arteriosclerosis, diabetes, cerebral hemorrhage, and even turn grey hair to black. Tragically, human nature isn't at all as advertised, and neither is pine needle tea. According to the U.S. State Department, at least one million North Koreans have died of famine since 1995. Well, we may not starve here in the good old US of A (unless algae becomes the US Government policy position on food), but I bet that we will have a new kind of energy famine if we pin all our hopes on algae or on other blue-green energy sources. Perhaps LET THEM EAT ALGAE! will become the new campaign slogan for President Marie Obamanette

Those links provided keep stating “if we can find a way to turn it into fuel.” This is the same as using corn for fuel. It is a matter of researching and developing in order to produce and deliver enough to be cost effective. The reason this is better than corn is because it does not displace any current foods in production – this can be grown in sand, and watered with saltwater (reserving the use of freshwater for humans – again note the drought around Texas). This is a video explaining what/how our tax dollars are being spent for this project. www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=GCOc31fQi7A The author in the Washington time’s link you provided, Peter Bella, talks about helping here and now. Either we invest in future technologies now or when those problems are a lot worse we will not have the technology to meet our energy demands in the future. I’m curious why he doesn’t advocate ending all other R&D in the nation in order to help ease our suffering? Why would someone want to prevent alternative fuels from being developed? He also mentions paying through the nose on gas prices, but is he (or you) aware of this… www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=4d3kK4kgz5g&feature=endscreen I agree 100% with driving “cars of our choice, not yours.” Allow more options in cars and stop trying to force the rest of the world to remain enslaved to the fossil fuel industry. One more thing about the article from the Washington Times author, he states “Earth to the President; no one cares about the future.” Unfortunately this seems to be a mantra of the conservative/right side of politics. If that is the core of their reasoning, forget about the effects of our current decisions on the future, will make it even harder for us decades down the road.

....lets just copy the whole paragraph, so people know what you are talking about....and how you got to the "Unfortunately this seems to be a mantra of the conservative/right side of politics"
Earth to the President; no one cares about the future, science fiction, or the goddess Gaia. No one cares how much algae or any other kind of bio-mass substances there are on the planet. People care about today, gasoline, and their ability to freely go from point A to point B without facing bankruptcy.
....and you know what I got out of this, just another name to add to the my list ..
1. Solyndra Inc....bankrupt, tax payer loss=$528million 2. Beacon Power...bankrupt,tax payer loss=$43million 3. Ener1...............bankrupt, tax payer loss=$118million 4. ...and now fucking ALGAE....$14million, which I will be adding to the LOSS column.... 5. Electric Car Battery Maker A123 Systems Files Bankruptcy 6. Another DOE-Backed Solar Company Goes Bankrupt
Mr President stop spending our money, please!
.....and again, who gives a shit about algae....

People can bash Obama all they want about gas prices, and the republicans will NOT miss an opportunity to do that to get elected, however the truth is NO POTUS (democrat or republican) can deliver cheap gas.Again the republican candidates will say anything(including promising cheap gas) to get elected, but they can't deliver.
What have Boehner and Mcconnell done to ease energy prices. These guys have been around alot longer than Obama. The house and Senate members don't appear to want the economy to rebound, they just want to make Obama a one term president instead of working on actual solutions for the people they represent. As a new resident of Kentucky,I will volunteer ANY and ALL extra time I have to get rid of mcconnell when he is up for reelection. He is a waste of skin.

You have to admit cancelling an oil pipeline project, a moratorium on drilling permits and reducing internal capacity does not help and that is directly from Obama and his admin. Congress and the media are giving Obama a huge pass as well. I remember Pelosi and a lot of the D's calling for congressional investigations when fuel prices surged last time but that was a different president. Same with unemployment numbers. Coincidence? If its low get the accolades (If you are a democrat) if its high the blame that goes with it (if your a conservative). The numbers are what they are and on the "hope and change" guys watch +3 years into his presidential apprenticeship. (FAIL)

Burn tomorrow’s prosperity so that we are not inconvenienced by research and development costs now. I don’t understand how I can read that and see the bad while you see it as a positive statement. We each paid about $.46 for this project. If you think that is going to bankrupt you, I suggest you stop driving your F250; or stop giving 12+ billion per year in subsidies to the fossil fuel industry. www.eli.org/pressdetail.cfm?ID=205 I’m not sure how you figure $3.75 a gallon as free, but if that’s what you need to keep telling yourself - knock yourself out.

These people never learn, and always think they are smarter than the forces that drive the real world. ....They are not. The sad truth is that they really don't much care whether their lovely interventions( or spending our tax dollars) actually work or not; they really don't care one way or the other about the (often) devastating consequences that ensue when they force their fantasies on everyone else; because their real purpose is only to make themselves feel good.....does it make you feel good Bo862?
The Obama Administration and the EPA (if ever there was a government agency that should be obliterated, the EPA is it) are set once again to wreak havoc on the economy and the ripples of their lunacy will spread wide and far, even beyond the U.S. And, on top of that, they have the audacity to claim that they are science-driven! These fools have no understanding of science, or what makes science work; but again, they DON'T REALLY CARE.
Embracing the assumption of linearity (from their Perfect Laws and Good Intentions = Perfect Result)...they continually (and conveniently) forget that the world is largely non-linear and couldn't care less about their Good Intentions.
The only reality....the only universe.... that matters to them is the narcissistically powered one inside their own head that tells them what Good People they are for "saving" the environment.
...good post Cal50

During Katrina Bush suspended EPA mandates for blended gasoline (EPA regulation) to ease the refinery bottleneck and enhance supply. Obama should do a similar move or something along those lines to at least try to speed up or help the supply side. Truth be told I think he cares little how much gasoline costs and I bet its been years since his hands touched a gasoline pump.
I would love to pull the plug on the EPA and some of its oversight and mandates followed by cutting the IRS staffing back about 90% and implement a flat tax.
