Just curious what the consensus is on the AWS for Skilled Trades at LAP. Three months into it, what do people think about the lifestyle, economics, etc?

After a couple of months, I've come to like it, but I'm on a day shift also. During a 2 week period I work 7 days for a total of 84 hrs. The every other weekend is the worst part for me, I've missed some family/friends functions. I've never worked much overtime, in the past I would stay over 4 hrs. if really needed, but on this schedule I'm not coming in on one of my days off for 12 hrs.. LOL Hardly any difference in money, you get 3 days one week, 4 days the next, including some OT and/or shift differential.

Heard several electricians left in December, must not be going over very well for some, I guess.

They all retired! I think that was the latest date you could retire and still get extra $$ to leave.

Exactly right, Skilled Trades employees that had signed up for the buyout could work up to the end of November, before leaving. I would rather be working a tradional 8 hour shift.... but it has not been hard to adapt to the AWS either, to each his own opinion.

Should have expanded on my post, several of the guys that left were not big on 12 hr days and the AWS was an added help to make the retirement decision.

When LAP went to AWS last year, it was hinted that KTP would see it soon, anyone hear different? Any updated info?

The AWS has only been implemented in plants that have a 3-Crew production operation, it gives Ford fixed costs for Skilled Trades on weekends. If KTP can ever go back to the 3-Crew operation the AWS will be used for Skilled Trades. Welcome newguy04, and congradulations on making the cut. Skilled Trades is a great opportunity in my opinion, its all of what you make of it.

I dont like the working weekends for straight time at all,and the 12 hrs once im here is neithere good or bad for me. only thing I like is the 5 days off in a row,so overall it is a bit on the plus side for me.

PLUS SIDE: 1. Low senority people don't have to be stuck on afternoons for years. Even new hires at LAP are working dayshift. You can actually see your kids everyday. 2 .Your really only working half the year 3. If you have a limited amount of vacation you can choose the shift that suites you best. ex: a crew can take 2 vacation days and have 9 days off. or c crew can take 3 vacation days and have 10 days off. If you lay out your days right. 4. You have 1 double time day one week and 2 double time days the next week. = more money if you work alot 5. With the 5 day off schedule you can actually take mini vacations. 6. On the night shift crew I at dinner every night with the family.
NEGATIVE SIDE: 1. Everyday you work is 12 hours long. 2. When you work overtime is 12 hours... 3. On days you work you will miss all family activities if your on dayshift. Especially if you don't live immediately out the gate. 45min drive home I have. Ball games always over by time I get there. At least I get to tuck them in I guess. 4. Short 3 day work week comes out to 39 hours pay. 4 day week comes out to 54 hours pay. 5. Have to work every other weekend. 6. Really interfers with outside activities. Like softball leagues and church. Things that have fixed dates.
These are some of the pluses and minuses I have experienced. I'm sure there are more... Thanks.

So there is still OT available on the AWS? I assumed AWS meant no OT. Can you work 7 days a week if you want? I interviewed for a position last week and was told right now with 3 crews you could work all the OT you want. Just figured that would change with the AWS. If not, what is the advantage of the AWS? And can you elaborate more on premium days (1 1/2 and double time) and what is considered overtime? Thanks.

Yes we still get OT on the AWS however at LAP it's not the AWS that's creating overtime it's running production 7 days a week that creates it. AWS sucks...probably 85-90% of trades dislike it.
