Republican Gov. just signed both bills pass by the Rep. legislature in a lame duck session.
Michigan, and now many, many UAW plants are Right To Work.
Some debate on the attatchment of an appropriation to the bill, which would keep it from referendum.
Or, like Ohio, it could face referendum and be striken down when Union people get pissed.
This Union Busting Moment brought to you by Fox News and the Koch bros, who funded it.............. BTW, notice that Fox keeps running the story about the Chrysler workers getting their jobs back? Just a co-inky-dink I suppose.

Kentucky will be a RTW state soon, very soon.
We're about to have a situation where the Republican Party, AFP, and various business lobbying groups will have the majority of the UAW membership in RTW states............
Its a well funded, concerted effort by a hand few of the nation's wealthiest individuals to de-unionize the country completely.
And they are flat buying politicians to do it.

If only the union members can choose to opt out and no one else can make that decision how is it anyone else's fault again ?? Sounds like you do not like people to have a choice. That's so democratic of you....

That's so democratic of you.... You claim "the voting public is really too stupid to make informed decisions" yet you want them to have the option to defund unions. Your "choice" argument is a sham. If you have a legitimate reason to argue the position fine, use it. But, unless you believe everyone visiting this website are "too stupid," I suggest dropping the choice argument.

Since the law that passed gives the actual workers that choice I find it amusing that several people want to shoot the messenger for allowing that choice.
If your membership is largely from forced membership good luck recruiting anyone else.
Now back to crying a river....

Forced? Someone holds a gun to your head to come to work everyday? If it bothers you, try being a man and walking out the door and do not come back.
As some conservatives around here have mentioned, there are plenty of jobs out there. All you have to do is get off your ass and go find one. You can start with toyota or bk.

The only purpose of RTW is to create more division within a union shop, and to cut money flowing into each union.
It weakens the union by making the union bargain for people, who don't have to pay for it.
No doubt if and WHEN Kentucky becomes a RTW state, countless members of 862 will quit paying dues. It makes it easier for the company to force worse and worse contracts on the union, pissing more people off, and causing more to drop out.
The bitter ideological enemies of the whole concept of unionism are willing to spend hundreds of millions nationwide to pass RTW, and some union members are thick-headed enough to say, "yeah, maybe its a good thing".........
FWIW, the Gov of Michigan just saw his approval rating drop from the mid-50's to the 30's almost overnight.

If you are good at your job you should be self confident, if your an idiot and need a union to hide behind or for protection it explains your whining. I work for Ford and the union is paid for by me. Not the other way around.

2nd tier wages are fine with the IUAW since they collect dues from those lower paid members.
I think its time for some 2nd tier IUAW employees. They are OK with people doing equal work for less pay, unless its them.

Not the other way around. And part of the conditions for working for ford is to be a unions dues paying member. That is your choice. Accept it or move on. "Crying" "poor baby" "if your good" "your an idiot" "union to hide behind" By sticking to your "choice" argument, and your attempt to derail the conversation by bringing emotions into it shows you realize your argument is bs. It may be time to find another argument to convince us that unions need to be defunded.

Do you actually think that ford would continue to pay the higher wage if there was no CBA ?UAW leadership did not go to the company and say ,hey lets pay new hires half the wage of the older workers. This was something the ford leadership insisted on.UAW leadership didn't create two tier pay, ford did,and without a strong and well funded UAW the CBA will only get worse.UAW leadership also didn't force this on us,WE ratified by majority vote the agreement that included two tier pay. Some people would say"live to fight another day".At some point we the membership will have to make a stand, and stop giving back what our parents and grandparents fought for.

Hint~ Ford founded 1903 UAW founded 1935 1914, Henry Ford made history once again. The auto manufacturer established an unheard of $5.00 a day minimum wage in his factories.

It is what it is. Giving people a choice is good, forcing someone is bad. Please explain why Henry Ford paid a record wage in 1914 a good +20 years before the UAW even existed? Or Explain why the union has given back / given up same pay for same work and reduced wages and benefits most recently? Use additional pages if necessary.

To keep a workforce of 14000 they had to hire 52000 in 1913. Amazing

My how times change.
An employer had to pay a higher wage to retain workers and today we have people willing to work for less and will line up outside the doors to get the chance.
(and pay dues on top of lower wages)
Progress?

What they are lining up for is the hope to some day have the life style previous workers enjoyed. If the current 2nd tier employees knew they would be stuck at the same pay with reduced benefits for 30 years you would see the same turnover rate.
Hope is what ford is dangling in front of the new hires, and they (ford) recognize this opportunity to reduce labor costs with something that costs them nothing.

I hope it becomes rtw in ky, our union is garbage. The roaches crawling around this dump could do a better job. Good example: since Jan 2 2013 b shift has been making atleast 20 more units per day than any other shift. Today almighty A crew went home 10.2 with only 640ish, while b crew must do 680? Thanks for the equality Steve Stone/uaw. Keep looking out for your legacy peeps, cause you know when rtw gets here you will be back to working on the line!
