if we had to choose whether or not to be in the union, wouldn't that make the union work harder for us? the way it is now, they get paid either way. we are about to find out that they can raise our dues without a thing we can do about it.

Couldn't agree more. The IUAW would have to start working for the people who pay the dues, instead of worrying about unionizing transplants and spending money on getting democrates elected, they would have to visit the plants they represent and see that the members are taken care of, and start by getting rid of two tier wages! Instead of "right to work" we can call it "make them (IUAW) work". They fear RTW because it puts the power of the purse back in the hands of the "rank and file". If they do theirs jobs they have nothing to fear. Bring on RTW in KY

When you give individual workers a choice to be part of a union or opt out it suddenly gives people a chance to vote with their wallet that otherwise never happens. It would show the IUAW how the membership really feels & if the rank & file is happy or not.
The union would have only themselves to blame if its existing members opted out by choice. If members are truly happy then the IUAW would have nothing to worry about.

ALEC is the major non-profit organizer behind the RTW movement along with others only purpose is to screw over the workers! www.alecexposed.org/wiki/ALEC_ExposedIn order to stymy the effort, we need to VOTE OUT those that are ALEC puppets and get our rights back!! In the above web site you can go and see who's who in your state that takes money from ALEC.

Here is a reply I posted to the International UAW Facebook page. I admit, that I was against any form of union dues increase until I came across an article about RTW laws and those that are behind it. Looking at that list, I can understand now why ever cent we put in to the union coffers only helps the members and future members in securing a better future, not only for us but the generations to come! Take a look at this list, peruse its contents and one can see why the IUAW has a fight on their hands just as we, the members do, to VOTE OUT those that only have corporations interest in mind! www.sourcewatch.org/index.php/ALEC_Non-Profitsand to look at ALEC in depth www.alecexposed.org/wiki/ALEC_Exposed

If / when I get back the things I once HAD I would be more open to a dues increase. The membership has given more things up in concessions than we have gained thru contract negotiations or recent.
Until I get back the things I once HAD don't ask me to contribute more to the group that gave away my benefits.

I haven't got shit, but I have had benefits, pay and break time taken from me while the douchebags up north vote themselves raises and while nonunion places like Toyota are making more than me. Fuck those appointed douche-nozzles with a rusty knife! We cant even vote them out! Can you say socialist? And our local "They can do that" UAW aint much better. Right to work may not be the answer, but raising my dues isn't either!
