Russia has reportedly threatened to impose retaliatory sanctions to block importation of vehicles from Western companies. The US government and its allies recently brought sanctions against the country for allegedly supplying Ukraine separatist rebels with weapons and other military support, though the campaigns are focused on the energy and financial markets. Russian President Vladimir Putin has already responded by barring imports of certain food products. He is said to have initially dismissed expanding the sanctions to include foreign vehicles, but remains open to the idea as a potential response to any additional Western actions, according to a report in the newspaper Vedomosti that was quoted by Reuters. Such a move is not expected to affect foreign automakers that already manufacture vehicles within Russia, though certain luxury brands, such as Mercedes-Benz, do not have any local production facilities. The Russian government has not yet publicly commented on the matter. Source : Kia Wiki
