Labor Day Picnic at the louisville zoo - All union members and their families are invited to join us Monday, September 1, 2014 at the Louisville Zoo, 1100 Trevilian Way, Lou. KY, for the Labor Day Picnic and Car Show sponsored by Greater Louisville United Labor. Tickets are $9 at the gate and include all-day admission to the zoo, parking, picnic, food & drink (served 11am-3pm), car show and kids’ inflatables. Children 2 and under are free. Off-site parking and shuttles will be available. Zoo hours: 10:00am to 5:00pm (exhibits remain open until 6:00pm). Ticket information is available if you visit louisvillezoo.org/union/tickets.htm.
Voter Registration Drive - The Citizenship and Legislative Committee will be carrying out a voter registration drive inside LAP and KTP. The KTP drive began on Monday, August 25 and extends for two weeks. The LAP drive will begin on Tuesday, September 9 and will also extend for two weeks. The goal of the committee is to not only register voters but also educate the members on issues and the importance of supporting candidates that back the unions’ issues. The November 4th General Election is a little more than two months away and the deadline for registration in both Kentucky and Indiana is October 6th at the close of the clerks’ offices for the day. Every member should be registered to vote and make sure that they vote to maintain a voice for working families.
UAW Endorsed Candidate of the Week – The Citizenship and Legislative committee’s candidate of the week is Alison Lundergan Grimes for U.S. Senate; Kentucky. Alison’s number one priority will be putting Kentuckians back to work. Her plan for Kentucky will help increase family incomes, encourage business growth, and create new jobs. It will prepare and train Kentuckians for the economy of the future. Delivering these commonsense solutions will require a new brand of leadership that cares less about Washington’s silly games and more about giving hard-working Kentuckians a fair opportunity to put food on their tables. Alison is against Kentucky becoming a Right to Work state. She fights for the middle class, supports labor issues, and is an advocate for raising the minimum wage.

Please help by dropping off these items at both union halls located on Fern Valley Road and Chamberlain Lane or you can call Vera Newton at 364-3973 to make arrangements for pick up.
AFSP Out of the Darkness Walk - The walk has grown this year with a collaborative sponsorship of UAW Local 862, KTP, LAP, and Voith units along with all the employees within our local union. The walk continues to raise money for vital research and education programs to prevent suicide and save lives. Please join my family, myself, and our team (UAW Local 862 Ford/Voith) on November 1st, in our efforts to walk to achieve our goals to raise awareness. Visit afsp.donordrive.com to register.
