WEEKLY UPDATE October 17, 2014
ORDER BANK:
2015 Escape: 25,205 22 days supply
2015 MKC: 4,183 23 days supply
PRODUCTION OVERTIME: As of this writing we have Sunday October 26 tentatively
scheduled for A-Crew. Voluntary overtime opportunity for C crew is tentatively
scheduled on Election Day which is Tuesday November 4 (a 6pm start) and also on
Veteran’s Day which is Friday November 14 (a 6am start). There is a B crew
Super Saturday being discussed but the date has not yet been specified.
Remember that overtime dates are tentative until you have been notified by the
Company about that day’s actual production.
PROCESS COACHES DOING INCLUDED WORK: The job of a Process Coach is to manage
manpower, not to build vehicles-building vehicles is OUR job. This includes
vehicle assembly, repairing or “tweaking” things on a vehicle, transporting
(or carrying) parts to and from workstations or areas, etc. Article X, section
3 of the Master Agreement says “Whenever it becomes necessary to develop or
perfect a new mechanical process or job, it is agreed that the Company may use
Supervisor or Assistant Supervisor for such purpose if a regular employee is not
displaced thereby.” In these cases only, it is within the contract for
management to perfect a process; otherwise, it is not. As they do more and
more of our work, that leaches jobs away from UAW employees. If you see a
Process Coach working, repairing units, carrying stock to jobs, etc., please
contact your Committeeperson who will address it.
ABEDNEGO DOING INCLUDED WORK: Abednego is an outside contractor company
working in our Paint department. They were contracted by Ford to devise a
better paint filtration process. Unfortunately, Abednego personnel have
repeatedly taken it upon themselves to do much more than just their contracted
work, including the work of both UAW –Ford production and skilled trades
personnel. As we have used the grievance process to address this issue, we
have also been made aware that several other locations are experiencing the
exact same situation. When they do more and more of our work, that work
leaches away from UAW Ford employees to an outside contractor company, so it is
in our best interest to protect our jobs and stop it whenever we see it
happening rather than looking the other way. The UAW is addressing Abednego
both locally and nationally. If you see Abednego personnel doing the work of
our UAW workforce, please contact the Bargaining Committee or UAW Job Securities
representative Herb Hibbs so that it can be documented and we can continue to
build our case against them.
WEST BATHROOM ALMOST COMPLETE: Construction of the bathroom at G-44 is complete,
and we are waiting on a drain line issue to be resolved. Once that is done (in
the next week or so), the bathroom will be open for use. Thanks for your
patience during it’s construction and completion!
CONTRACT PROPOSALS NOW BEING ACCEPTED: You know that one thing that just really
irks you, or that really good idea that you wish we had in the contract? Now
is the time to address it! In preparation for next year’s local and national
negotiations, both local UAW leadership and the I-UAW are looking for contract
proposals…new ideas or ideas for changes to our current local and national
contracts. Please submit your ideas on the proposal forms that are available
in many areas of the plant, or ask your committeeperson for a form. The best
ideas come from people who work the floor every day!
ADULT HALLOWEEN PARTY: The UAW Local 862 Community Service Committees from LAP
and KTP will host an adult costume party for UAW members! Proceeds will
benefit Camp Taylor Elementary School and the Kling Center. The party will be
held at the UAW union hall located at 3000 Fern Valley Road on Saturday October
25 from 8pm to midnight. Admission is $5 worth of school supplies per adult
and 1 canned good. No alcohol is provided but it is BYOB. Food, music by a
DJ and door prizes are included; costumes are not required but are encouraged!
This is a non-smoking event and event security will be onsite.
HELP GET THE WORD OUT: We are in need of assistance at our local union phone
banks. This is one way that everyday UAW members can do their part to help
protect and expand our way of life and our jobs. Lunch will be provided at
both halls, and the times are listed below. Please make sure that you sign in
so our International CAP department has your name down as participating.
Thanks so much for your help!

2014 ADOPT-A-CHILD: It’s almost Christmas time again. Every year we host a
Christmas party for the less fortunate in the area, our “Adopt-A-Child”.
This year we are sponsoring children from two organizations - the VOA
(Volunteers of America) which is an organization where the entire family lives
in the facility, and Child Place in southern Indiana.
Our goal this year is to spend $200 to $250 on each child. At the party the
children will open gifts, have a pizza lunch/dinner, and enjoy entertainment.
The party will be on Friday December 19 at the UAW union hall on Fern Valley
Road. I am asking each employee to give $20 or whatever you can afford. I
would like each Quality Leader to collect the money in their areas, then call me
at 3674 and I will come and collect it. Supervisors and superintendents are
asked to help make sure this gets done. I would really like to have someone from
each area shop for a child. Anyone interested in volunteering to shop for a
child, please contact me.
In closing, I would like to thank everyone in advance for helping make this a
special Christmas for these kids. The look on their faces is priceless, and
this really is something they will remember forever. Remember, these kids have
very little, and without us most of them wouldn’t have a Christmas. I invite
everyone to attend the party at the Hall on December 19th and experience
firsthand how much your contribution means to the children. It may change your
outlook and will definitely warm your heart! Any questions or suggestions,
contact Ralph Napier – office: 364-3674, cell: 812-987-7611.
