The Faurecia Gate Rally **cancelled**- Thanks to your support in the recent organizing efforts of the Faurecia Exhaust Plant we have made a difference in securing a voice for many new workers in the community. The majority of the workers at Faurecia Exhaust Plant desire union representation and want to join the UAW! We want to continue to show our support to the workers by holding a gate rally at the Faurecia Exhaust Plant on Indian Trail on Thursday, October 16th Cancelled. The rally will be rescheduled and we will notify our members of the new date. If you can, please join us. We will meet at the LAP Union Hall on Fern Valley Road at 1:30pm. We will carpool for those who prefer not to drive. The gate rally will start at 2:00pm and will end at 3:15pm at 4415 E. Indian Trail, Louisville, KY. If you have received a white shirt with the blue wheel please bring it with you. If you do not have one, there will be plenty on hand the day of the rally. If you plan to join us please call the LAP Union Hall at 502-969-9136 to have your name added to the list.
11th annual fellowship dinner – The UAW Local 862 Joint Chaplaincy Committee is presenting their 11th Annual Fellowship Dinner on Saturday, November 1st, 2014 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at the LAP Union Hall on Fern Valley Rd. This year we are “Embracing the Past, Present, and Future” with Guest Speakers, Phyllis Stewart, and Rick Pardue. There will be a catered dinner and live music. Tickets are $9.00 for adults or $6.00 for retirees and children ages 12 and under. You can purchase tickets from any of the Chaplaincy Committee Chairs or at either Local 862 Union Hall.
Ford and UAW Help Promote Career Readiness - Ford Motor Company Fund and the UAW recently announced a $350,000 grant for an externship program that will bring teachers into Ford’s Louisville Assembly Plant to experience auto manufacturing first hand. This will allow teachers to better understand the needs of business and the essential skills for students to succeed in the workplace. Ford is also launching a "Powered by Ford" program at two area high schools to teach manufacturing and engineering. You can read the full article at media.ford.com.
Students Help to Get Out the Vote - Last weekend UAW Local 862 Union Hall on Fern Valley Rd hosted 55 college students that came to Louisville from various colleges to help in our efforts to get out the vote. The students raised their own funds to participate in the walks. In all the students knocked on over 6200 doors in their two days in Louisville, a huge boost to our voter contact efforts.

Holiday Book Drive - Each year Barnes & Noble stores choose a local organization to be the recipient of our Holiday Book Drive. This year we have chosen the Newburg Chapter of Boys and Girls Club of Kentuckiana. Our members have been invited for a shopping weekend November 14-16 to support this organization. A portion of each dollar spent by your members on that weekend would be donated to the Boys & Girls Club. To make sure the Boys & Girls Club benefit from this event your members would need to show a Ford ID or tell the cashier they are supporting the Boys & Girls Club.
Employee Discount - Supercuts in the Forest Springs Center at 12474 La Grange Road is offering Ford employees 20% off their haircut or color service every day just for showing their employee ID. You can download the Supercuts Mobile App to check in from your phone and avoid wait times in the salon.
Get Out The Vote - The A. Philip Randolph Institute is asking APRI members and any other volunteers available on Election Day (November 4, 2014) to help get out the vote by providing transportation to the polls for those who need it. The APRI office is located at 1801 Northwestern Pkwy upstairs in rear of building. They will be working from 6:30am to 6:00pm. Notify Cylister Williams at (502) 558-4009 or the call APRI office at (502) 774-4834 and give your name, hours you wish to volunteer and a telephone number where you can be reached.
