IF YOU HAVE NOT DONE SO, PLEASE CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVE. THE NUMBER OF CALLS NEED TO BE INCREASED. YOUR MESSAGE TO THEM CAN BE AS SIMPLE AS “I URGE YOU TO VOTE NO ON FAST TRACK AUTHORITY”
THEY NEED TO HEAR FROM YOUR MEMBERS, PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO ANY OF YOUR UAW DATABASE MEMBERS.
To: All Region Activists, CAP Officers and Region 8 Staff
Subject: Fast Track Authority
This is a critical time on trade policy as negotiations on a fast track bill are quickly progressing. Both the White House and the Republican leadership in Congress are trying to push through a fast track bill, which would give all future trade bills passage with a simple yes and no vote and would block any amendments and attempts to filibuster. Senator Orin Hatch (UT) and Senator Ron Wyden (OR) of the Senate Finance Committee are working on a bill that could be released as early as next week. The House Ways and Means Committee is working on similar fast track legislation.
The UAW strongly opposes a fast track bill, and is actively lobbying elected leaders about the negative consequences our members will face if this bill is passed. Currently the International Executive Board is focus on stopping a fast track bill and has not taken a stance on Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP).
I have attached a flyer which outlines the reasons for your member of Congress to oppose this. Please call today!!
1-888-926-0045, tell them to vote no on fast track!
When you call you will be greeted with a short message, asked for your Local Union number and lastly your zip code. You will then be connected to your U.S. House of Representative member.
Thanks for assisting!
