I've been having a lot of issues lately with medications and mental illness. Depression, anxiety etc. Recently my Doctor took me off of my anti depressants because I was starting to have crazy bad anxiety attacks. I have been withdrawing from the antidepressants and it has made it hard for me to even get out of bed so I have missed the past 4 days of work. I also landed myself in the hospital becuase of an adverse reaction to another medication I was taking but now have stopped. I have not been able to function right for at least a solid week. Is there anything I can do to get this covered like with FMLA or something. This was unforseen and I had no idea it was going to affect me like this.

If you miss three days you have to sign up for unicare and have to be under a doctors care from day one. Since you've missed four days already they won't let you return to work without it, and if you miss five days without being on unicare short term disability they can terminate you under a five day quit notice. Hope this helps explains what you're looking at...

Call unicare asap and get your dr. to cover you from day one since he took you off the meds. Good luck, please get all the help you need, the brook is available for help with depression . Call your ESSP rep at the plant right now they are there for you in times like this. Call union to get your ESSP reps number. Give us updates on yourself .

I did not think that this would be a Unicare issue. It was too late for me to call them once I found out. I have another Doctors appointment Fri the 9th to get my meds fixed and should be back to normal over the weekend. So tomorrow (Fri 9th) I call Unicare and let them know and then go see my Doctor again? If I call Unicare tomorrow will I be safe from the 5 day quit thing? I can't get a hold of anyone in the damn union and it's very frustrating.

I went through a similar situation. Long story short, you have 2 weeks to make a claim with Unicare from the last day worked. Get your doctor to back date and put you out on medical. Then get FMLA started. I have bipolar disorder so I know what your going through. Good luck!! I hope they can get you back on track soon!!

You also need to call labor and open a medical leave from the first day you were out.

You can call down to medical and have them get hold of your ESSP rep for you. Tell them it's urgent. The rep will get back to you and advise.
