John Yarmuth on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement
April 24, 2015
Mr. Steven Mark Stone
Louisville, KY
Dear Mr. Stone,
Thank you for contacting me to share your concerns about the Trans-Pacific
Partnership (TPP) Agreement. I appreciate hearing from you on this important
issue.
As you are aware, the TPP is a free trade agreement among the United States and
eleven other countries in the Asia-Pacific region. With the negotiations
ongoing, I wanted to be sure you knew that I share your concerns about the
process and scope of TPP.
Given the serious concerns surrounding negotiations, I strongly oppose "fast
track" and recently joined with like-minded colleagues in calling on President
Obama to abandon efforts seeking this authorization. Congress last granted "fast
track" authority in 2007, which allowed the Executive branch to negotiate trade
agreements, sign them and send them to Congress for expedited approval without
opportunity for Congressional amendments.
As the negotiations move forward, I will continue to work to ensure that our
trade policies are fair and improve - not weaken - critical labor,
environmental, consumer, and other protections.
Thank you again for sharing your views, and please do not hesitate to contact me
again regarding any other matter of concern. In the meantime, if you would like
to learn more about my work in Washington and Louisville, please visit my
website at www.yarmuth.house.gov, where you will find the latest news, my weekly
schedule, video from hearings, and information about constituent services. You
can sign up for my e-newsletter to receive periodic updates on important issues
and services for your family. You can also follow me on Facebook and Twitter

Sincerely,
John Yarmuth
Member of Congress
