16th Annual UAW-Ford KTP JDRF Golf Scramble – On June 14th over $71,000 was raised for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. 268 golfers with the support from our UAW and salaried employees, suppliers, business partners, and local businesses made the event a success. We would like to thank all of our volunteers! To pull of an event this size you need a lot of helping hands. Volunteers from all departments helped and several even brought family members along with the JDRF Kentuckiana Chapter Staff including board members. It could not have been done without them.
16th Annual Labor Day Picnic and Car Show at the Zoo – Mark your calendars for the 16th Annual Labor Day at the Zoo Picnic and Car Show on September 7th. Ticket prices will remain $7 for advance sales and $9 at the gate the day of the event. Tickets are available at Local 862 Union Halls, the in-plant union office at KTP (Mark Baker, 429-2291), or the LAP Cafeteria (Gayle Parker, 418-1990). Children two and under are free. Included in the ticket price is all day admission to the zoo, parking, food and drinks, car show and inflatable rides.
Owen Hammons Scholarship winners – Congratulations to Allison Rachel Gootee, Myrissa Druien, and Aidan Nash. They are the three winners of the Owen C. Hammons Scholarship.
LAP/KTP UAW 862 Community Services committees are asking members at both LAP and KTP to save their unused toiletries (i.e. shampoo, body wash, and conditioner) from their hotel stays while on vacation this Summer. You can drop them off at either of the Local 862 Union Halls from now until September 1st. We will have bins in the secretaries’ offices to collect your donations. The items collected will be donated to the Wayside Christian Mission and Camp Taylor Elementary.

Please be safe in your travels during this upcoming summer shutdown. For those production workers and skilled trades that will be working in the plants, remember to question any unsafe event. There is a higher than normal amount of work taking place during this shutdown and it only takes a split second to make an unsafe action and that same split second to rethink that action. I wish all of you a safe and enjoyable time with your families as you deserve each and every minute with them.
