RIGHT TO WORK BAD FOR UAW WORKERS: There has been much debate regarding the
possibility of Kentucky becoming a right to work state pending our upcoming
State Elections. Here is a quick snapshot to consider when making your
political choices when it comes to earnings, retirement, and health care
benefits per The Bureau of Labor Statistics for 2014.
Median earnings of full-time wage and salary for workers with union
affiliations: The median earnings of full-time wage and salary workers by
Union affiliation varied in considerable amounts. The median Union Worker made
approximately $207 or 27% higher earnings per week and $10,764 more per year
when compared with a non-Union worker.
Access to retirement and medical care benefits: The stats were considerably
favorable for a Union Worker when compared with a non-Union Worker. 94% of
Union Workers had access to retirement benefits and access to medical benefits,
while only 64% of non-Union workers had access to retirement benefits and 68% of
non-Union workers had access to health care benefits.
The employee share of Medical Plan Premiums: This data varied considerably as
well in favor of the Union Worker. Union workers shared only 13% of single
coverage premiums and 19% of family coverage premiums, while non-Union workers
paid 21% of single coverage premiums and 34% of family coverage premiums.
