On 7/19/15 at approximately 615pm an announcement was made via the plant radio that people should not drink the water or use the ice within the plant. The outside temperature at 6pm was well above 90 degrees. The line ran for over 5 hours before Gatorade was provided in some areas of the plant and many of the people on the line were never even told that there was a problem with the water. Outlined in the heat stress program when actual outdoor temperatures are 90 degrees or above the company agrees to provide ice and liquids. It is a complete disgrace and shocking reminder of how weak our local union leadership is. The heat stress program is well known and clearly layed out in black and white as a responsibility that rest with the company. Once it was determined that there was a problem with the water within the plant our union leadership should've used the heat stress agreement as grounds to stop production until the company fullifilled it's responsibility. This is clearly a sign that the union is either totally under the control of the company or are just to weak to hold the company to clearly stated contract language. We,as dues paying union members deserve much better representation of a contract that we voted for and the company agreed to. Shame on you 862 leadership you are not holding up your end of the deal and now it's beyond money, it's our health!

Comes a time you have to take care of yourself, the government isnt going to, the union isnt going to, a fortune 500 company isnt going to. If/when you see an unsafe working condition you have the power & responsibility to yourself and your family to take care of yourself. Shut the line off, bitch, moan, cry, get sent home, etc. Place will be here tomorrow. If the water is unsafe & there isnt anything to drink & you feel unsafe shut it down, go to medical, cause a scene. Believe me you will see a union rep if you cause a scene out on the line & cost production. Raising a complaint the day after on an internet forum isnt going to make the guys up front blink. It is a sad case I agree but its us, production employees, againt them, union officials & company. Believe me you wont get fired for causing a full fledge scene, maybe get sent home but you will get to look a union official in the eyes before that happens at least. Stay safe & fight on brother!

All I've heard are rumors about the water situation on Sunday night for c crew. But, I haven't seen anybody of importance refute the stories being told so I am leaning towards believing them. Fact is, it's federal law that clean water has to be provided for employees. Not just for drinking, but general cleanliness. If the stories are true, how on earth did we allow the line to continue running? If the local can't even enforce federal law, why even bother with anything else. Close the fucker down, give back the union dues and let's just do without them.
With that said, I'm hoping the facts aren't in line with all the rumors I've heard.

I heard the call over the radio and I personally told people I saw drinking the water hours into the shift who had been told nothing about it. I can't speak for the pictures I've seen but what I experianced is what I posted.

I believe you, it just sounds crazy. Who was the bargainer on duty during that shift? And how did we as a union allow that to happen?

I believe you can get a kit from the county health department. Secondly, I don't depend on anybody but myself to keep me in ice, drinks, snacks (machine usually takes your money), or lunch while I am at work.

And you get it when they finally figure out a way to get it to you, not when you're thirsty. From what I see out in predelivery and all the repairs/less stock units sitting outside, they couldn't run a ferris wheel in a hamster cage much less devise a simple plan to get you a cold drink on a hot day in a timely manner. The only thing they can do in a timely manner is call an early break/lunch. I see a three ring circus on a daily basis and don't depend on them to do anything other than enter my time on the drot and you have to watch them on that! Simply think of the water as kool aid, don't drink it and bring a cooler.

The point I'm trying to make isn't weather or not we should drink the water or depend on ford for water. We all know the company couldn't careless about our well being. The point is, that this situation clearly showed our unions inept ability to stand up for the well being of its members even when we clearly have the right. If they are afraid to stand up to management in this situation, my question is when would they ever?

I was working Sunday night....had heard nothing about not drinking the water. I had brought my own gatorade from home and it was empty. When I saw them bringing gatorade out to the line I was in the process of filling my empty gatorade bottle with drinking water at a quality leader's station...when it was about half full it was obvious to me the water was BROWN! I showed the quality leader and he said, "yeah, hadn't you heard...don't drink the water or use the ice"......
