STRIKE ASSISTANCE UPDATE – There was no new information shared at the final strike assistance meeting in Detroit last week. We set the standard for John Deere, GM, Chrysler, and Ford as we shared our Local 862 program in its entirety. I was asked by over 30 local unions for our strike vote program as they wanted to replicate or format.
CURRENT CONTRACT EXPIRATION – I along with the KTP and LAP Bargaining Committees will be in the plants all day Monday thru Tuesday morning. As we are notified with negotiations updates we will immediately push all information to the plant floors and membership including the UAW 862 website.
UAW LOCAL 862 ANNUAL PICNIC – The picnic will be held Sunday, September 20th from 11:00am-5:00pm downtown on the North Great Lawn. It’s for all UAW Local 862 members, retirees, surviving spouses and their immediate household members. This is always a fun event with great food, inflatables, rides, and games for the whole family. Please have your Ford ID or union card available for admission ticket and chance to win prizes throughout the day. Food service is from 12pm-3pm. Union member t-shirts will be distributed until 4pm or as long as supplies last. There will be a corn hole tournament, magic shows throughout the day, and Bingo at 1:30pm; must be 16yrs old to play. There will be limited (first come first served) handicap parking located in the green lot under the interstate on River road with valid handicap permit. The handicap parking was moved due to a policy that the Waterfront Development has in place.
GASLIGHT FESTIVAL PARADE - We have been invited to walk in the Gas Light Festival Parade Thursday, September 17, 2015. The parade starts at 6:00pm. Last year it was the Chaplaincy Committee only; this year we would like invite ALL Standing Committees and all UAW Local 862 members and their family. We would like for everyone to wear any UAW Shirt. Everyone will need to arrive by 5:00pm or earlier as traffic will be heavy that day. They will close the road during the parade from J-Town Center to Watterson Trail. We will ALL meet together at the J-Town Shopping Center, 10000 Taylorsville Rd. The parade will begin at the J-Town Commons Shopping Center (Taylorsville Rd. & Patti Lane) to Watterson Trail & College Dr. Anyone who is interested in participating can email Phyllis Stewart at pjstewarts@aol.com.
