MAYOR’S GIVE A DAY WEEK OF SERVICE - It is the time of year to begin thinking about the Mayor's Give A Day Week of Service, April 16-24, 2016. As you plan for the months ahead, please take the time to consider how you as an individual, or an organization, can participate this year during the Week of Service. They are just beginning to add projects to the Give A Day website, which you can find at www.mygiveaday.com. The site will continuously be updated as more opportunities become available. This will be an excellent chance for your dependent children to participate or complete their community service hours required for the UAW-Ford Community Engagement Scholarship for Dependent Children. Lastly and very importantly, please help promote Give A Day Week of Service with your friends and neighbors through social media networks and any other means of communication.
THE TRANS-PACIFIC PARTNERSHIP – In a statement from UAW President Dennis Williams he said “We already know what happens when overseas profits are put before working families. We had a trade surplus with Mexico in 1993, the year before North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was implemented. Supporters of the trade agreement promised new jobs. Instead, U.S. trade deficits with Mexico cost almost 700,000 U.S. jobs by 2010. Most of the jobs displaced were in manufacturing. Nearly every auto manufacturer and supplier has increased their operations in Mexico with the hopes of increasing their exports to the United States and elsewhere.” The TPP will put Americans out of work, destroy environmental protections and increase prescription drug prices. Call Congress on Monday or Tuesday, February 8 and 9, at 1-855-856-7545 and tell them to oppose the TPP that will lower our wages and kill our jobs.
