This question has probably been on this forum somewhere but I am going to be a new hire next week and I had a question about how to get into skilled positions or apprentices at KTP. The reason I am asking is that I will get my degrees in Industrial Maintenance and Industrial Electricity by the end of the year and I would like to be able to use them. Thanks.

Neither will help you get into the trades. You need a journeyman's card, or 8 yrs of verifiable experience. As for the apprenticeship, the new contract has changed the process radically, but more school will be required.

If you want to be skilled trade, go down to the local IBEW union hall and sign up for apprenticeship, your degree will go a way towards proving you really want to go down that path. Otherwise you'll be stuck on a mind numbing repetitive job where you can feel your unused brain cells dying off faster than taking hits off a bong.

How does the Ford apprenticeship process work now? (I'm sure this is somewhere on the forum as well)

Skilled Trades Apprenticeship program was modified this past contract...soon the details will come up that involves you getting a set of classes at a local university and once you complete these courses you go on the list to be brought in when apprentices are needed. These details are being finalized and as soon as they hit they floor a bulletin will be posted I am quite sure.

I just saw the new apprenticeship program and it says that the list prior to this new program will be exhausted before anyone will be selected from this years program. Does anyone know roughly how many people and how long it will take before apprentices will be selected from this years program?

And also does anyone know who the "local JAC rep" is? I've asked around and no one I've talked to knows.
